The CSNW chimps have a love/hate relationship with stuffed animals. Sometimes they like to tear apart stuffed animals—maybe to use their stuffing for bedding, or just for fun. Other times, they like to play with them or even cuddle with them, like Jamie did the other day:

I think Foxie enjoyed the Halloween party.
Update: how you can help chimpanzees
For Seattleites and other Washingtonians who missed the talk on Wednesday, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has posted information about how you can help chimpanzees by contacting Senator Patty Murray. Time is of the essence, so do this today. Find all the info you need here (including a link for those who live outside of Washington): http://www.pcrm.org/email/murray_letter.html
For those who did come to the talk – thank you! It was great to see both familiar and new faces. As we said on Wednesday, we are hopeful that biomedical experimentation on chimpanzees in the U.S. can end soon. Jody’s son Levi and all of the chimpanzees still used as experimental subjects need your voices to make this happen.
PCRM’s Research Policy Specialist Noelle Callahan and Director of Public and Government Affairs Elizabeth Kucinich visited the sanctuary yesterday. Normally shy, Burrito spent the entire visit staring at Elizabeth Kucinich. I do believe he’s in love.
In the photo below, left to right, is Sarah, Noelle Callahan, me and Elizabeth Kucinich.
Happy faces
Did I mention that I love Jamie-ween’s Hallo-Birthday at CSNW? As if The Great Pumpkin and all the treats in the Playroom weren’t enough, volunteers Stephanie and Katelyn carved mini pumpkins and filled them with various fruits and veggies (cucumbers, strawberries, cherry tomatoes, etc) for the chimps’ lunch forage in the greenhouse. I think the chimps were already stuffed at that point, but they enjoyed them none the less! Needless to say, no one, not even Burrito, was interested in dinner.
If you take a closer look at the photo above, you might noticed that one of the pumpkins has a “CS” on it. And you may notice that in the photo below, Burrito’s carved pumpkin has a “W” on it. It was impossible to really get a good photo of the whole thing, but it says CSNW. Stephanie is so creative.
They also carved faces into melons:
Foxie looks like she’s mimicking the face of hers
What a great day. Thanks so much to Stephanie, Katelyn, Tamela, Dick and Robbi for all the awesome gifts and decorations for the party and to all of those who donated in honor of Jamie’s big day! You guys are the BEST!
See you tonight, Seattle
If you live in Seattle, don’t forget to RSVP for tonight’s presentation about Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest. You will also learn about how you can help chimpanzees still in research from Physicians Committee of Responsible Medicine director of public and government affairs Elizabeth Kucinich.
The talk and a letter writing session following the presentation is at Seattle Public Library 1000 4th Ave., Level 4, Room 2 and begins at 6:30pm. For more information and to RSVP, visit PCRM’s website.
See you tonight!
More party pics
It’s official- Jamie-ween is my favorite CSNW holiday. We all had such a good day yesterday! Here are a few more pictures of the party in the playroom (and I promise, there is even MORE to come!)
Missy with the raisin-filled pinata:
There was some intense love for the pumpkin. It was 35lbs of deliciousness that lasted allll day long.
Jamie checking inside containers for goodies:
The juice was a big hit, as always.
The Great Pumpkin
As Diana mentioned in a blog post from earlier, Jamie and I share a birthday today! I can’t think of a better way to spend my Hallo-birthday than by throwing a party for Jamie and the rest of the Cle Elum Seven!
We have a lot of folks to thank for making today’s party a huge success. Robbi & Dick Brown and Tamela donated a lot of fun new toys and decorations, and volunteers Steph and Katelyn brought some new things with them today as well. We also want to thank Deborah G., Barbara B., Jessica K., Tamela, and Jeani G. for donating towards Jamie’s big celebration today! And of course we can’t forget all of Jamie’s Chimpanzee Pals: Cherie Breaux & Robert Bochnik; Kathy Carlson; Candy Crannell; GFWC Cascade Woman’s Club; Debbie Kray; Pam Lehnert & Marc Warner; KC McCarthy; Jackie Mulanax & Brad McNeice; Debra Redwine; Pam Reid; Kathleen Roan; Tony Silvia; Nicole Sturn; and Jackson Walkden-Brown.
Steph and Katelyn brought with them a giant pumpkin, with Jamie’s named carved in it (and the “J” was made into a boot!) The following photos are of the Great Pumpkin (as I’ve decided to call it).

So much happened today that I’m pretty sure there will be more Hallo-birthday photos and videos posted tomorrow!
