Windows!

August 5, 2010 by Elizabeth

Great news! Today we installed the last of the cageless playroom windows.

Here is a before shot of the garden side of the playroom:

And here is the after shot, with four caged windows replaced with chimp-proof glass:

Here is a before shot of the wall facing the chimpanzees’ outdoor area (these are the windows you’ll see in the video below, from the other side):

And here is the after shot, with three upstairs and one downstairs window replaced with chimp-proof glass:

This video was taken yesterday when the chimps were first given access to the outdoor area after the installation of the two upper left picture windows. The upper right window wasn’t quite finished, but it was the first time the chimps could sit in that windowsill because it was previously covered by a large polycarbonate panel on the outdoor area side. Everyone was visibly excited about the new additions and spent the remainder of the afternoon climbing in and out (and in and out) of the new windowsills.

To everyone who has given funds, time and energy, or kind words: We can’t thank you enough. You have given the chimps a brighter view!

They love the new windows and the cubbyholes to sit and view the outdoor area. I do think they are more active with tyring to get from one to the other and back again. They also seemed to enjoy looking into the playroom.

The play room both down stairs and up stairs are much brighter and will help fight off the winter blues we all get.

Thank you to all who helped with this project, well done.

Woohoo! 🙂 Ain’t it a grand feeling to set a challenge, work hard, and see it through to completion?! This is a great achievement by a whole village of people. 🙂

I love watching the chimps using the firehoses to climb and move around on. Pretty close to vines in the jungle … LOL.

Love the video!! I didn’t realize they would have the ledges to sit on, what fun for the chimps. Looks like Jamie’s feeling better, didn’t see Negra, hope she’s feeling better. A chimpanzee’s curiosity is a wonder to watch. The new windows make the facility look larger. Anna, I like what you said about “village of people”, couldn’t have said it better.

Great video, good to see them vying for position to get the best view. It will soon become apparent which is the best window to sit at because there will be a queue for the window seat! Once again it really shows how much time and effort you all put it in to ensure the happiness of all of the Cle Elum 7. Well done to everyone.
