Something to Lighten Your Day

February 3, 2012 by Diana

This post is for Tamela and Julie, supporters who are separately going through very similar tough times right now. We want them to know that everyone at the sanctuary is thinking about them. I decided to put this video together in the hopes that it will lighten and brighten their day today, even if just a bit.

A little background on the video and the doll you’ll see: Sometime around 2003, J.B. received a package in the mail from Sarah that contained a custom-made doll. The doll’s face was an image taken from a photo of J.B. himself. The “J” in J.B. stands for John, so the doll became known as Baby John. Personally, I thought the doll was funny, but also more than a little creepy.

This past summer I decided it was time to get Baby John out of our house. I thought a sure-fire way to have him permanently destroyed was to give the doll to the chimps (I’m not sure what I would have done if I had a different job!)

Jackie and Debbie were the first caregivers to present Baby John. Below is the video that was taken that first day.

First of all, you guys are so great for thinking of Tamela and Julie, and I know such love to them both will mean a lot to them. The video is bound to be cheerful! Foxie always cracks me up !

That was nice of you Guys to put together the video for Tamela & Julie. They will get a kick out of Foxie & the Human Doll. I loved her reactions!

Omg…that was too funny….poor JB….I’m sure that’s really not how Foxie thinks of you!! πŸ™‚ This was bound to cheer up Tamela and Julie, as it sure did me!!

Aside from the spankings (more like face-whacking), I thought this was so sweet. And I hope Tamela and Julie each get a good laugh and some healing love from Mama Foxie and Baby John.

Tamela and Julie — I think maybe Foxie was trying to SMACK your troubles away. πŸ™‚

Diana — I don’t want to presume anything. Could you explain Foxie’s reaction to the doll?

I don’t want to presume anything either, so I’m not sure I can explain Foxie’s reaction. She cuddles and beats her troll dolls as well. If she REALLY doesn’t like a doll or other object, she rips it apart right away, which she didn’t do with B.J. In fact he lasted way longer than I was expecting. So, I’m not sure what Foxie was thinking when she was hitting the doll in the video.

Maybe it was just a warning lol.

Maybe she was just trying to smack some life into poor Baby John! πŸ™‚ Aaaah, any comments from the real J.B.?? πŸ™‚ See my previous comment J.B…hope you didn’t take offense from her whacking your little likeness! πŸ™‚

Dear Foxie—her expressions were sweet and I’m sure she loves JB. I always come away with joy and comfort when visiting your website—it is the best–although I do love the other great ape websites as well and feel such a connection with these animals and caregivers. Thank you—-look forward to every posting.

Oh Diana~~~~thanks for making me cry……..tears of joy!!! Everyone at the sanctuary (and I’m including the chimps, of course) mean so much to me and it touched my heart that you would think of me and Tamela at this difficult time. I look forward to getting back into regularly scheduled volunteer shifts. To Tamela, thank you for your kind words and I am holding you in my heart as well.

I’m glad the video did the trick. Hope to see you soon, Julie.

If anyone can bring a smile to Tamela and Julie it would have to be Foxie, and then throw in a JB doll and it’s a hit!! Julie and Tamela lots of love and prayers are headed your way.

Did Baby John make it to see another day in the chimp house?

Baby John lasted much longer than I was expecting, but he recently met his final demise.
