We’ve been going through some older videos we have and I just love this clip of Negra. I was standing on a ladder filming the chimpanzees coming into the playroom for the first time (it was only a little over a month ago!) through one of the windows. Negra saw me and approached, presenting her belly for a little rub. The window where I was is still a favorite spot for Negra – it looks out over the valley. Negra’s expression at the end of this clip is absolutely precious.

Old ladies playing
J.B. was just taking some video of Annie and Missy playing, and a surprise third person joined the play session. We had to post it right away. It’s our longest video post yet, but I’ve already watched it three times. That play face made my day. I guess that’s why we call the big room the playroom. Diana
Opposable toes – why chimpanzees are superior
Negra is spying on us
We recently gave the chimpanzees a bunch of plastic mirrors, thanks to a generous donation by Laird Plastics. The chimpanzees were thrilled to be able to examine their own faces. Foxie even used her mirror to practice her “hoot face”. But Negra had something else in mind. She has been using them to spy on us with her back turned. Now she won’t even sit down with us face to face! J.B.
Negra’s Home
Click on the words “Negra’s Home” at the end of the paragraph for a video of Negra filmed yesterday coming into her new home!! She was the last chimpanzee to be tranferred in. You can see in the video that she comes right in and excitedly greets Sarah, who was taking the video. When the door is opened for her, she goes through to meet up with her chimpanzee friends waiting in the other front rooms. Negra’s home
Cle Elum Seven home at last!
All seven chimpanzees, now to be known as the Cle Elum Seven, are safe in their new sanctuary home! The transfer went incredibly smoothly and the chimpanzees are very calm and clearly happy to be here. Negra, Burrito, Missy, Annie, and Jamie have been taking turns looking out the window (Negra seems to dominate that space). They’ve been playing with each other and eating the fresh fruit that was donated this morning. You might see the chimpanzees on King 5 or Komo 4 tonight if you’re in Seattle or KAPP 35 in Yakima! And the story of their arrival will be showing up in various newspapers too. This photo, though, says it all.
