Terry and Willy B

March 31, 2022 by Anna

Today we did a re-intro involving Terry, Rayne, Honey B and Willy B and it went really well! It’s always been a question of how the chimpanzee males will react to each other in a group setting and where they will fall within the dominance hierarchy. Today, Terry exhibited a lot of submissive behaviors (pant-grunts and bobbing) to Willy B who seemed to appreciate the amenable gestures.  While we don’t know what that means for future introductions, it was certainly a step in the right direction.

Willy B and Terry spent the afternoon playing and grooming with each other and took nice breaks to play with Rayne and Honey B.

Leeked Photos

March 30, 2022 by Kelsi

As you can tell from the title, there is some leeked content. I guess this kind of leekage isn’t so bad ;).

Please enjoy these photos of Cy eating a leek:

Terry really liked his leek too:

Forage For Ages

March 29, 2022 by Chad de Bree

For the first time in what feels like forever, we have had some consistent sunny days with the temperatures in the 60s. A sunny day with slight overcast in 60º weather and the slightest of breezes are the perfect conditions for the first forage on Young’s Hill of 2022!

A Splash of Color

March 28, 2022 by Anthony

It’s going to be a busy Monday here at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest- a produce delivery, a facility inspection, some staff training, ongoing construction work, and all the usual chores- so today’s blog post is short and sweet.

Here’s a photo of Foxie enjoying the views from “The Portrait Studio” (Front Room 4), complete with a colorful doll companion.

Just Another Sunny(ish) Sunday

March 27, 2022 by Sam Jones

Just another relaxing Sunday around the chimp house! As I’m writing this the weather is looking more and more like it’s going to start raining at any moment, but for most of the day though the weather was beautiful! Willy B enjoyed some naps in the Courtyard and later even Negra went out to see the sunshine on Young’s Hill.

Here are some photos of Foxie’s group on Young’s Hill today.

Eat and Run

March 26, 2022 by J.B.

When former volunteer caregiver, Sandra, came by for a visit this morning during breakfast, Burrito faced a difficult choice: take her on a run around the hill or stay and finish breakfast?

Outdoor Habitat Expansion

March 25, 2022 by Diana

We are pretty darn excited about the expansion projects underway at the sanctuary! I predict Jamie is going to LOVE her new patrol routine.

Learn more about all that’s happened the last two years and the future/current projects on the Future of CSNW page on our website.

Construction costs have gone way up, so if you have the ability to donate, we would really appreciate it!

In addition to all of the various ways you can contribute every day, there will be a few special opportunities throughout the year, including the upcoming GiveBig and the in-person HOOT! fundraising fête in September. Reach out if you want to talk to me about donation and sponsorship opportunities.
