Ants on a Log

July 23, 2012 by Elizabeth

Volunteers Steph and Sara made ants on a log for the chimps’ lunch today. It was a big hit. (Seven out of seven chimpanzees agree that the appropriate method for tackling ants on a log is to lick off the peanut butter and raisins first, and go back for the celery later.)

Roslyn Troll and Doggie Olympics

July 22, 2012 by Diana

The weather was great. The competition was fierce. The times were good.

Supporter Monica B. found the BEST EVER mascot for the Roslyn Olympics. Meet Stanley the Troll Dog:

Who’s coming next year? We’re going to try to get the park on the 2nd week in July on a Saturday. Big thanks to ARRF Animal Rescue and the sponsors of the 2012 games!

Thanks Jim and Brian

July 21, 2012 by J.B.

Jim Spencer and Brian Osborne have spent the last couple Saturdays putting the finishing touches on our new shed. The money for the materials was raised at the last Out of the Box auction and the labor was generously donated by Jim, Brian, and Doug Bucklin.

The shed will house all of our equipment and supplies for events like the auction, the Sippin’ for the Seven wine tasting, and the Race for the Apes 5K. Diana has already moved in, but many of our supplies are now packed up for tomorrow’s Rosyln Olympics. Hope to see you there!

Rainy day play

July 20, 2012 by J.B.

The wind and the rain have kept the chimps inside for most of the day, so Jody and Foxie played quietly near the door to Young’s Hill, waiting for an opportunity to go out.

This is another example of how the chimps change their style of play to suit their playmate. Earlier in the day, Foxie was running, leaping, spinning, and swinging with joy when she got her favorite Dora doll back. But Foxie knows that Jody lives life at a slower pace than she does, so she toned it down a bit.

For Ruby

July 20, 2012 by Elizabeth

Brigetta Barone sponsored today in honor of her daughter, Ruby, who is “a caring and beautiful young woman who has enormous compassion for animals.”  What a sweet gesture!  (You can sponsor a day for a loved one here.)

Here’s Foxie with one of her loved ones, a troll doll:

Today’s goofy play

July 19, 2012 by Debbie

Today, the chimpanzees were being pretty playful, especially Missy and Burrito. I wasn’t able to get the best video while trying to play tug-o-war with Missy, but I got a short clip. Burrito was playing a lot with Jackie at the barn doors. You’ll want to watch until the very end!

Happiness on the hill

July 18, 2012 by Jackie

Missy was such a goof when I opened the door to Young’s Hill this morning! She ran right out (and lots of folks followed her) and went up to the new climbing structure in the bamboo.

After sitting there for a little while, she decided to get a better view of the hill:

And then goofiness with her best friend Annie ensued
