Today, the chimpanzees were being pretty playful, especially Missy and Burrito. I wasn’t able to get the best video while trying to play tug-o-war with Missy, but I got a short clip. Burrito was playing a lot with Jackie at the barn doors. You’ll want to watch until the very end!

is there anyone out there in the world who is not madly in love with burrito? don’t think so.
Annie Norris says
He’s definitely got my vote! He’d also win the “Most Pals” contest if there was one. I love it when he pushes the towel through the cage just begging Jackie to play. Totally adorable!

Jackie is the luckiest girl on the planet!! I’d give up a kidney to have Burrito get goofey with me!! 🙂
Such a joy to see all of the chimps so happy!!

I love how Burrito nods his head. He can always make me smile.

It’s so great to see Burrito having so much fun these days!
I’m sure it has so much to do with his comfort level at the Sanctuary after four years in this “new” life but do you also think he is also feeling better because of his medication? Does his medication also relieve any possible pain he might have been in before his condition was diagnosed?
J.B. says
It’s quite possible that the medication would give Burrito more energy, making him feel better, but we noticed that he was acting particularly playful before his treatment began. I would chalk it up to spring/summer weather, his overall comfort level with the rest of the group, and the normal ups and downs in mood that affect all of us. Whatever it is, we’re happy for him. Of course, none of this playfulness stops him from rattling the doors in the morning, spitting on his caregivers, and being an all around pain in the butt to the girls 🙂

Really? They still spit at you guys? Or just new faces who might be unfamiliar? Has anyone ever given back raspberry or do you tend to ignore it?
I guess boys will be boys 😉
Debbie says
Yes, they will spit water, but that is completely normal for captive chimpanzees to do. Honestly, it’s a good thing – it means that they feel comfortable enough to spit on the humans and that they see the sanctuary as their home. We try not to react, though sometimes I do get caught by surprise with a big mouthful of water 🙂
