A Very CSNW Christmas (Jamie’s Edition)

December 25, 2025 by Chad de Bree

Today was a Christmas to be remembered! It was such a great party for all the chimpanzees here. So much was happening we had no choice to split up the footage to make two videos. So please enjoy Jamie’s group’s Christmas celebration today, and be sure to come back tomorrow to watch the other groups’ parties! Including George’s first CSNW Christmas! I won’t say much other than he was really, really, really excited!

Jamie was also excited and partied her heart out!

And please remember to donate! We are getting so close to our $100,000 goal by tomorrow in order to unlock an additional $40,000! Every little bit helps!

Help us reach our end of the year goal here!

Fort B Access Granted

October 26, 2025 by Chad de Bree

There are times I wish I was able to peek into the chimpanzees’ thoughts to see what they actually are thinking. For instance, I really wish I could peek into Honey B’s mind to see what that brain conjures up imaginatively.

For the six years I have known her, watching her has always been intriguing. If you were able to watch her almost every day, you too would understand that mind is running on all cylinders at all times. From the luring in of unsuspecting caregivers to spit in their face, to the placement of toys in places to mess with daily shifting, to her strategic placement of items when she is building her nests, and yes, to some how figuring out how to steal a hose while the caregivers were away.

I was spending time with her in the afternoon while she was in the mezzanine. She was specifically in the area commonly know as “the cubby.” If there is an spot in her areas that she without a shadow of a doubt love, it’s that little spot. She was in such a playful mood (with me at least), spinning around on her back, making her little grunts of happiness that serenades my ears. She reached outside her area, grabbed a purple blanket and drug it in. Draping it over her head, she grabbed two corners and held them up into the cage mesh.

It looked like a little tent or fort. Honey B then invited me to come closer. It was like we were both playing a little game of “fort,” which she seemed to think was fun.

It was really reminiscent of being a child again, playing fort and telling secrets. And as it happens somewhat frequently, I missed a grand opportunity. I was telling my friend about it, to which they asked if I had a blanket on hand to complete Fort B. Unfortunately, I did not since I had not anticipated this fun little game. Next time though! (Hopefully there is a next time.)

Side note: here is Honey B’s mother, Missy, utilizing a fort during “Blanket Fort Day.” Missy was enjoying her food puzzle and watching that young whippersnapper, George, as he was on the Bray earlier.

When The Cat’s Away…

October 18, 2025 by Krissy Brasfield

Yesterday, Jamie spent some time in the clinic for a checkup.  You will hear more on her procedure in the days to come, but rest assured that she is doing just fine!

Today, I wanted to show you what the rest of her crew has been up to since Jamie has been in isolation.

You know what they say!?  When the cat’s away…

Annual Fun

October 11, 2025 by Ellen Brady-McGaughey

When I first started as staff, I was told that being invited to play with Missy is a rare gift. Sometimes it only comes around once a year! In today’s blog video, watch as Missy makes sure Caregiver Ellen gets her steps in with a game of chase, with a hide-and-seek twist.

One of the biggest holidays of the year at the sanctuary is quickly approaching…Jamieween! Check out our wish list to send gifts for Jamie’s big day!

The Hilltop Trio and a Downhill Dash

October 3, 2025 by Sabrina

George has been getting out on the Bray more and now that he’s more comfortable he is out at the same time as Jamie’s group and recently Missy (followed by Jamie) was, seemingly, walking up Young’s Hill alongside George who was in the Bray. Caregiver Kelsi and I stopped everything to go outside and check it out and were able to record some footage of the event.

Don’t forget you can join us online for our HOOT event for pre-show at 6:00 and live broadcast at 6:30 (PT) and we have our online auction going through the weekend!

Celebrating Mave on the Other Side of the Building

September 26, 2025 by Krissy Brasfield

Yesterday, you got to see Mave celebrate her 36th birthday!  Did you miss it?  If so, check it out here!

Today, you get to see what everyone was doing on the other side of the building!  Jamie, Missy, Annie, Burrito, Foxie and Negra got to venture out onto Young’s Hill, their 2 acre outdoor habitat, to forage for all of the birthday goodies!  They had coconuts, Dole Whip, baby heads of iceberg lettuce, corn and mini peppers.  YUM!  (No mango for this group due to Annie’s mango allergy.  Bummer!)

It was quite windy outside, but most everyone braved the wind gusts to participate in the party treats!  Can you guess who DID NOT brave the wind?

Breakfast With Burrito And Friends

September 9, 2025 by Krissy Brasfield

Today started very Fall like.  This morning was a little darker, a little drizzly and a little bit chilly.   The chimpanzees are really enjoying the cooler temperatures, and Jamie’s group of 6 headed right out onto Young’s Hill for their morning patrol.  Even Negra ventured out, with a doll tucked into her pelvic pocket!

Come breakfast time, everyone meandered in from the Hill at their own pace.  And surprisingly, Annie was the last one in, making Burrito pretty impatient for his breakfast!  But then, Burrito doesn’t like to sit still for anything.

Come have breakfast with the chimps!
