Jody has been making lots of great nests lately. It’s amazing that even after decades of deprivation, she is such an accomplished and enthusiastic nest-maker!

Philanthropy Day at Urban Weeds
One of our favorite Seattle businesses is having a philanthropy day! Shop Urban Weeds all day today – Saturday, September 19th and choose to donate 20% of your purchase to Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest or three other worthy charities – including the Fremont Abbey Arts Center where Celebrate the Seven is going to be held. The Fremont Abbey is a not just a venue for rent – they have a bunch of great community programs focusing on music, visual dance and literary arts (we’d understand if you have a hard time choosing which organization to give your 20%).
In addition to supporting four terrific causes, Urban Weeds will be offering some great deals on plants and accessories for your urban gardening desires.
Hours are 10am to 6pm and their address is 4302 Fremont Ave N. Find a map here.
So many things to bid on!
We’re in the middle of writing up the catalog for the Celebrate the Seven auction, and I’ve got to tell you – we have a lot of really fabulous stuff, and LOTS of it! Now we need to sell those tickets out! So, if you haven’t already – email everyone in your address book and tell them not to miss this event. Ticket sales are picking up – better get yours today! And email me to let me know if you’re able to flyer in and around Seattle – I’ll hook you up with some gorgeous flyers and leave-behind cards.
Here are a few of the items up for grabs: yoga classes, etched bottles of wine, getaway packages (like a NY stay and Candle 79 dinner, an eagle-watching float trip, a week in Mazatlan, and a Caribbean cruise), gift boxes of vegan meat (that’s right – vegan meat made locally by Field Roast), jewelry, NASCAR tickets, special label wine with a photo of Missy and Annie on it, numerous Seattle hotel overnights, rafting trips, wine tastings, gift certificates for so many restaurants my head is spinning, boarding for companion canines, custom portraits, and art worthy of our own gallery show! Check out just some of the art here. This is going to be one amazing evening.
Thank you to everyone who donated and helped procure items.
Jamie sleeping outside
J.B. and I were just outside and we spied a chimpanzee -form on top of the climbing structure in the outdoor area after all of the caregivers left for the evening. Normally the chimps tend to bed down right after dinner and are pretty well settled by the time the caregivers leave at night, and we’ve rarely seen anyone settling outside. I figured that the indoors might just feel safer, but I’ve been hoping that, after time, the outdoor area might also feel like a safe place to sleep.
When we got closer, we could tell that it was Jamie. She was lying down on her stomach and had a sheet completely covering everything but her head. She looked at us casually, but with no interest in getting up. Next to her on the platform was the boat bumper that she had apparently pulled up there earlier today. Maybe Jamie decided it was a good night for a camp out in her own personal tree house.
Bubblicious
Occasionally we fill some containers with water and a tiny bit of soap (plant-based and non-toxic, of course) and put them out for the chimps to enjoy. Jamie sometimes likes to dip a brush in the soap and scrub the floor, caging, enrichment, etc. Jody, on the other hand, likes to put large quantities of bubbles in her mouth. Today, she even convinced Annie to try it out.
Getting silly
In a shocking turn of events, Foxie was a goofball this morning.
(I think we have the best job in the world.)
see you at PAWSwalk
I’ll be behind the CSNW table at PAWSwalk 2009 tomorrow. Be sure to stop and say hello! I love this event – so many wonderful dogs and their human companions raising money for a good cause. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday morning.
