Joining in on the fun

March 28, 2012 by Jackie

Burrito is a pretty shy guy and he’s usually very nervous about new things, which is why we were so happy (and surprised!) that he decided to venture out onto Young’s Hill the first day we opened it. Since then however, he hasn’t spent a great deal of time out there.

But with the weather getting nice, he’s been going out more and more. Today he was the first one out when I opened the door in the raceway and he spent a good 30-40 minutes out there. It’s so good to see him getting more comfortable.

“Innocent” Jody

March 25, 2012 by Jackie

While Jody is very much a sweetheart when she wants to be, she does have her devilish side. She is often the first of the chimps to greet us humans in the morning- usually with a long kiss and a breathy pant. Her sweet almond-shaped eyes will make you melt.

but… she’s not always so innocent

Good thing troll dolls are loved with or without hair!

Foxie and troll bellies

March 23, 2012 by Debbie

Foxie likes to not only rub her trolls on her own belly (and other dolls like Dora or a stuffed animal with JB’s face on it), but she also likes to gently rub their bellies with her thumb. This is just a picture so you can’t really see the action, but even with the troll upside down she’s still rubbing its belly.

Hiding out

March 21, 2012 by Jackie

Negra loves to cover herself in blankets, so as we were wrapping up cleaning today, in thinking of her I was inspired to build more forts in the playroom. We have several bullet-proof glass windows in the playroom but for ventilation purposes, we have left the caging over a few of them. Negra often builds her daytime nest in front of one of the window cages, so I decided to tie blankets up to the caging and let them drape off of the railing, making it a cabana-style fort. I think Negra was pretty pleased.

Though this isn’t a great shot, I love that it shows Negra peaking around the blanket to see what is going on outside of her fort

Burrito liked it a lot too. Here he is enjoying his peanuts in his fort

Dora Rescue

March 18, 2012 by Jackie

This morning, Foxie played a little game on the hill in which she put Dora on top of one of the beams of the climbing structures and played like she was going to push her off. But, Dora was safe in Foxie’s hands, as she always had another hand below to catch her if she fell.

Thank you Barb in Ohio!

March 16, 2012 by Diana

Barbara B. has officially kicked off the Sustain the Sanctuary fund-a-need on the Biddin’ for the Seven online auction!

Her generous donation of $500 this morning will go directly towards caring for the Cle Elum Seven chimpanzees.

Thanks so much, Barb!
