Welcome Sabrina!

March 24, 2023 by Anna

Last month we added our newest staff caregiver Sabrina to the team! Sabrina comes to CSNW with a wealth of  experience from her former job at Chimp Haven in Shreveport, Louisiana.  The last few weeks she has been learning our cleaning and safety protocols and starting to sow the seeds of friendship with the chimpanzees.  Next on the training docket she will learn to operate the remote doors and shift the chimps around their enclosures for cleaning.  At that point she will also take on the task of blog writer and get the opportunity to thoroughly introduce herself to all our followers.

Welcome aboard Sabrina, we’re so lucky to have you!

Two is Better than One!

March 22, 2023 by Kelsi

Today was absolutely beautiful! The sun was out, the chimps were enjoying their warm greenhouses, and the seven had another lunch Hill forage! I know I always talk about little moments in the chimp house: the moments that just kind of make your heart melt and remind you how grateful you are that these chimps are in sanctuary. Today was full of those little moments.

1. Negra was the first chimp out of the raceway for the lunch forage! She was going everywhere trying to find the potatoes and chow. It was very nice to watch.

2. Annie, as you may know, has already been spotted with her sweatbands! Today, she was either wearing them or carrying them in her pelvic pocket (a hot pink and green one).

3. Lucky was also spotted wearing a green sweatband (not pictured).

4. Foxie gave me her doll through the raceway so that we could go take a quiet walk around a little bit of Young’s Hill.

5. One of our interns gave us a pair of her Doc Martins that Jamie had been eyeing for awhile. We gave Jamie those boots today and she seemed elated to have them <3!

6. Cy’s group were out in the greenhouses for most of the day, all grooming each other.

Bonus photos!

Mave’s Menace

March 21, 2023 by Chad de Bree

Something spooked Mave in the Oakwood Greenhouse yesterday. Can you guess what it was?

Here are some bonus photos from today! Today’s was absolutely gorgeous with the weather in the 50s! So Negra’s group had a nice lunch forage on Young’s Hill!

Please, May I Have Your Chow?

March 19, 2023 by Diana

There are so many sharable moments that happen in a day, but sometimes I’m not sure if a video is worthy of the blog. So, I thought if I added some cinematic flair to this story that I caught through the window while I was cleaning the Mezzanine, it would make it seem that much more blog-worthy.

If you didn’t know before, now you know what those white bags are for on our Amazon Wish List!

It’s almost Spring! Time to clean!

March 18, 2023 by Jenna

Every morning, we divide up our caregivers and volunteers between the two sides of the building and assign cleaning roles. Today, I decided to show you all what a typical cleaning of Playroom 1 looks like! Fortunately for us, Jamie’s group was pretty clean the past 24 hours so we just had a quick spot clean upstairs and a full clean downstairs. They took it easy on us, for sure. The weather has been so enjoyable out that Jamie’s group has been enjoying spending the majority of their time out on Young’s Hill or in there cozy Greenhouse.

Once a week, we will scrub every area from top to bottom and use a disinfectant!
