Mave’s Menace

March 21, 2023 by Chad de Bree

Something spooked Mave in the Oakwood Greenhouse yesterday. Can you guess what it was?

Here are some bonus photos from today! Today’s was absolutely gorgeous with the weather in the 50s! So Negra’s group had a nice lunch forage on Young’s Hill!

Annie!

Jody!

And Queen Negra!

And Nutmeg for good measure!

Thank you, Chad, it’s good to see our Queen outside! Mave certainly has a distinctive alarm call! Quite dramatic. On the other side of the house, Neggie could be heard saying, “…are you going to eat that?”

Ugh…… but so true!…… why can’t she just be like the others and get into licking sticky larvae in the wasp nests… some people just have to be different:rolling_eyes:

Poor Maeve. I hope that someone will explain to her that her visitor is an amphibian and not a reptile.

On a happier note, what better way to celebrate the first full day of Spring than for the Queen to enjoy a luncheon on Her hill. After a long Winter’s hibernation, it is joyous to see our Neggie outside beneath the sunshine. Soon the green blades shall rise from the slumb’ring Earth for her.

Funny how the smallest things can be the most threatening………. whatever you do …DONT LET IT TRAVEL OVER TO CY:astonished:…….. he doesn’t need one more thing on his list

I’m not willing to bet the house. when they get help from the humans removing a snake or something, we usually see the resolution. all bets are off

When I began reading your post my first thought was a snake! Whew. Thank goodness it was only a little frog. (I hope the little leaf hopper made his way out of the greenhouse safely.) Poor Mave. She was definitely spooked by the surprise guest!

Thanks, Chad, for breaking down the video. Rayne was quick on her feet to rush to Mave! And was that Terry blowing raspberries during all the commotion? Cracked me up.

And, I love the forage photos! Negra! Queen of the soon to be sprouting Springtime Sweet Grass.

She was sounding pitiful; heartbreaking towards the end. She got some nice reassurance. Dear Mave!

Hey Chad, could you explain why the, other, chimps were not alarm calling too?

Although it’s never good to see or hear one of the group in distress, it’s so heartwarming to see how quickly Mave’s family gathers round to reassure her and to do what they can to help!

Thank you very much for your book for Jamie, Simon. I am certain that the Boss took pleasure in the graphics.

Ditto Tobin’s thanks, Simon. When she saw her own face on the cover, there was little reaction. Once she saw the boots inside, she wanted it right away!

Thanks Linda and Tobin – the only thanks I needed was to see Jamie’s reaction and to know the book was a hit with her!

I’m very glad that Mave could not actually reach the frog. It would have experienced the miracle of flight but not in a good way.
