Oodles of Fun!

September 13, 2019 by Kelsi

Oodles: (Noun) a very great number or amount of something. For example, I have oodles of photos!

Guys, what a week! It has been a little crazy here at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest or at least on the human side. It’s becoming cold and flu season and it took some of our team out this week. But, we made it to Friday and rest assure I have a oodles of extra photos from this week! Who wouldn’t want to look at chimp photos to ease into their weekend!

Also if you have ever wondered how can you could help these amazing & wonderful chimpanzees, a very simple way is to buy items off our amazon wish-list! An example could be: we have three more chimpanzees, which meaning we go through produce a lot faster. Donating Safeway gift cards is a great way to really helps us out!

Okay enough talking, let’s look at these chimps!

It is beginning to feel like fall. This morning I found Neggie wrapped up in blankets in the Green House:

Burrito at Annie’s party:

Jody catching the warm sun in the morning before Annie’s party:

We’ve Got Ten!

September 4, 2019 by Kelsi

Today was a pretty busy day. We had an amazing group of volunteers from Suncadia come and help us with the new extension on the Hill which provided a lot of supervision opportunities for Jamie and the entire chimp house really! But guys… Honey B, Mave, and Willy B got to go out in their new tunnel yesterday afternoon!! The seven and the three got to see each other from afar, and to say they were excited would be an understatement. I mean, Burrito almost forgot to eat dinner! So there was a lot of hustle and bustle between the work on the new hill and getting a peak at the new guys! There will be a video soon, but I thought today I would show you a collection of photos of each one of the chimps!

And a big thank you to the volunteers who came out to help us!

Missy’s 44th Birthday

August 24, 2019 by Diana

Missy had a tomato-filled birthday yesterday! Watch the video (with Jody pop-ups) to see Missy enjoying her day.

The three new chimpanzees continue to charm us all. We’ll be sharing more stories about them in the days, weeks, months, and years to come. We’re so very grateful to have had this opportunity to get to know them and to have cared for Missy and her six friends for the last eleven years. Each of these chimpanzees is so very unique and special, and it’s a joy to see them discover themselves at the sanctuary.

The one with Jody, Jamie, & Missy

August 13, 2019 by Kelsi

These chimps were having so much fun this afternoon! Foxie was spinning, throwing dolls, and running around with Caregiver Katelyn. Missy was wanting to be tickled by caregivers and ripping up boots. Unfortunately, I couldn’t really get any photos. Tomorrow there will be a video of Missy, but rest a sure I have lots of photos to share!

I love this one of Jo with a troll doll not too far:

Annie laid back:

And this morning we found Annie wearing two sweatbands! TWO!

After Jamie and I looked at #cowboyboots on Instagram, she decided to relax on a barrel in the Playroom:

Jody enjoying her apples out on the Hill this morning:

Summer lounging

July 28, 2019 by Katelyn

No matter how relaxed Annie and Missy are, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a time when they aren’t ready to burst into play. Or at least lapse into play, dependent on the level of relaxation happening:

Missy looks like she’s playing it cool here, and she is, of course, but her wheels are also spinning about what silliness she can get into with Annie:

So she donned a sock and the play biting began:

Annie’s head as foot rest:

Bonus Jamie nose and toes. She’s sound asleep on top of her barrel. She’s even sighing in her sleep as the summer breeze drifts through the chimp house:

Missy & Jo

July 26, 2019 by Kelsi

We have talked about this before, but Missy is a great friend to all. She understands that etiquette of play with each of her friends. Every game is different for the chimp. Missy can get anyone to play with her, even the most unlikely playmates aka Negra and Jody. Don’t get me wrong those chimps can play, we have all seen it! I would say it is even pretty normal to see Negra playing with Missy. However, it is fairly uncommon to see Missy and Jody playing. That is why today you are all in for a treat! J.B. got some great shots of Jody really letting go and having fun with Missy. Jody can be described from time to time as a serious chimp or the den mother and those are all true. Still, even serious humans or non-humans have to cut loose at some point.

It was a hot one today! I thought I would share an extra photo of Burrito shoveling watermelon shaved ice in his mouth today because, well, why not?!

Grooming

July 19, 2019 by J.B.

Grooming has very little to do with hygiene. And while we tend to play up the political aspect of grooming, it’s not all quid pro quo, either. Sometimes it’s just a desire for comfort, or in Annie’s case, an expression of absolute and all-consuming love for her best friend, Missy.
