A few weeks ago superstar volunteer Stephanie P. proclaimed today to be Luau day, and she wasn’t kidding! She showed up this morning with a car full of supplies! The chimps were besides themselves with excitement watching us set everything up. We had grass skirts, flower leis, pinatas, all kinds of drinks in fun cups, and snacks galore. What a fun day!

Annie & Missy photo on Discover blog
Yesterday, Candy alerted me to Sheril Kirshenbaum’s Discover blog asking for photos of kisses. Sheril has a new book coming out soon called The Science of Kissing, which features chimpanzees in a few chapters.
I submitted J.B.’s photo of Annie kissing Missy that we have available in our online store. Sheril liked it so much, she posted it to her blog today with links to our website to find out more about the sanctuary. Check out the blog post, feel free to leave a comment, and browse all of the kissing photos (Praire Dog Snog is pretty cute).
Breakfast forage!
Summer has been slow to come to Cle Elum, but today was beautiful, so we set up a breakfast forage first thing. Included were frozen strawberries, grapes, chow biscuits, nuts, smoothie in cups and fresh blades of grass. Everyone went for their favorites among the choices – Foxie for the grapes, Burrito for the chow biscuits, Jamie and Jody for the strawberries, Missy for smoothie, Annie for grass, and Negra for the nuts (while picking up grass for later).
Burrito and Sarah play
I caught a cute moment with Mr. B and Sarah today… 🙂 Notice the “I don’t want to laugh so I’m going to bite my hand instead” photos. He’s such a goof…
Anonymous Sponsor-a-Day
An anonymous generous donor has sponsored this day, June 4th 2010. Their donation helped us exceed our ultimate goal with our 2nd Anniversary Fundraising and inspired us to go for a fourth window!
Thank you to this anonymous donor, to everyone who has helped with this fundraising effort and to everyone who has sponsored days of sanctuary throughout the year.
Just nine more days to go until the second anniversary of the chimpanzees’ arrival to sanctuary!
Goofing around
People sometimes ask how we play with the chimpanzees if we don’t enter the enclosure with them. Exhibit 1:
