Luau Day

June 6, 2010 by Sarah

A few weeks ago superstar volunteer Stephanie P. proclaimed today to be Luau day, and she wasn’t kidding! She showed up this morning with a car full of supplies! The chimps were besides themselves with excitement watching us set everything up. We had grass skirts, flower leis, pinatas, all kinds of drinks in fun cups, and snacks galore. What a fun day!

Brava, Stephanie! What a treat for the 7!

I could watch Foxie break open coconuts all day!

Fantastic! You have outdone everybody, Stehanie! What a wonderful day the chimpanzees had. Did anyone wear a grass skirt?

Every day is a new day for me and my chimp pals. I hope all the caregivers can continue the wonderful job you do and not lose the high energy level you seem to have. Party on.

My thanks to Sarah & Elizabeth for letting me play! 🙂 I think I had as much fun as the chimps – I just love how excited they get!! I highly recommend making up your own holiday! I’m already thinking of what to do next…
Margaret – I never saw anyone actually wearing grass skirts (except Sarah & I) but I did watch Missy build a nest from skirts, streamer, and leis that was especially lovely.

How Fun!!! I did love how Jamie threw the snake a little further than the other stuff, pretty funny. Thanks for giving them a great day Stephanie!

It’s interesting that a stuffed, bright-colored snake it registered more as a toy (an unpopular one, at that, haha) and isn’t as threatening to them as one of the smaller plastic snakes. You guys are mean to test them, haha!

Stephanie YOU ROCK! I love the idea of proclaiming holidays! You are a trend-setter, my dear!

Forgot to say THANK YOU Stephanie! For spending the time, effort, $$$ and inspiring the rest of us! Those chimps obviously had a fab day because of your great idea! 🙂

How fun to hear the excited chimp noises. They must have loved it and the chimp pant hoots must have been music to your ears!
