Posts for climbing structures

November 20, 2010 by Diana

Keith came out for the day and he and J.B. spent a snowy afternoon preparing fir logs donated by Dan Sherman (thanks, Dan!) to be used as the posts for climbing structures on Young’s Hill.

Here are the logs and a view of a couple of the old buildings on the property.

And here are some of them “planted” in the ground on Young’s Hill. They’re about 10-feet tall. We probably won’t be able to work on the climbing structures until spring, but it’s pretty cool to see the start of things going up on the hill. Thanks to Karen and Don Young, Euan and Bethany Menzies and all who donated toward the 2-acre habitat-to-come!

Chewing

November 19, 2010 by Jackie

Human culture has a lot of hang-ups. While they have their place, we have all of these “rules”, like keep your elbows off the dinner table, and always close your mouth while chewing. Don’t get me wrong here- chimp culture has rules too, but to me, there is something so satisfying about watching the chimps so openly smack their lips while they chew their food. Especially Foxie, who is by far the coolest chewer I know.

Troll stealing

November 17, 2010 by J.B.

Jamie started a great game of “steal the troll” with Foxie this morning. There were multiple trolls involved and they changed hands several times. Foxie used every trick in her book – strategic tickling, biting, wrestling, surprise tackling, spinning, and somersaulting – and eventually got her trolls back.

Spread some Chimp Cheer

November 17, 2010 by Diana

Are you working on your holiday cards? Would you like to share the Cle Elum Seven with your list? We’d be happy to send you, free of charge, a pack of seven collectible notecards and donation envelopes (see photo below) to include with your holiday mailing. Your list will learn about your chimp friends and perhaps send a holiday Chimp Cheer donation their way.

Just email Jackie ([email protected]) with your mailing address and how many packs of seven you want!

Dinner time

November 15, 2010 by Jackie

Elizabeth went a little paparazzi on me last night and while spot cleaning the playroom, she secretly filmed this video of me serving dinner through one of the windows.

Negra and her night bag

November 14, 2010 by Elizabeth

Jackie was able to get some close-up footage of Negra enjoying her night bag the other night. It really is her favorite time of the day.

Nuts for chimps

November 12, 2010 by Jackie

One of the chimps’ favorite foods is nuts. At the end of each day, we give the chimps “night bags”, which are paper bags of unsalted nuts, seeds, popcorn, unsweetened dried fruit and various other goodies. The ingredients change based on what we have, but one thing is for sure- nuts are always in the mix! All of the chimps get pretty excited over night bags, especially Negra, who LOVES nuts.

For our next Chimps’ Choice, we would like to stock up on unsalted, in shell mixed nuts, jumbo walnuts, and almonds for our night bags and for forages. I have added the specific types we would like to our Amazon wishlist, both because we do not give the chimps much salt, and because we are stocked up on certain other types of nuts (for example: we have plenty of peanuts!).

So take a look at our Amazon wishlist and help us provide a more varied night bag for the chimps, and as always, I’ll send you something special in return.

Here’s a little inspiration:
