Nuts for chimps

November 12, 2010 by Jackie

One of the chimps’ favorite foods is nuts. At the end of each day, we give the chimps “night bags”, which are paper bags of unsalted nuts, seeds, popcorn, unsweetened dried fruit and various other goodies. The ingredients change based on what we have, but one thing is for sure- nuts are always in the mix! All of the chimps get pretty excited over night bags, especially Negra, who LOVES nuts.

For our next Chimps’ Choice, we would like to stock up on unsalted, in shell mixed nuts, jumbo walnuts, and almonds for our night bags and for forages. I have added the specific types we would like to our Amazon wishlist, both because we do not give the chimps much salt, and because we are stocked up on certain other types of nuts (for example: we have plenty of peanuts!).

So take a look at our Amazon wishlist and help us provide a more varied night bag for the chimps, and as always, I’ll send you something special in return.

Here’s a little inspiration:

as i’ve said before, the night bags are ‘love’ personified … like the tuck-in and kiss on forehead. you posted sometime ago a picture of Nightbag Negra with her hand extended for her night bag, i have it and it is one of my favorites. i shall be visiting amazon and there will be a nut or two in the chimpster’s future from another (if old’ish) nut … me

Every time I tell someone of the chimps getting night bags, their first response (as was mine) is “Ooohhh” and then they place their hand over their heart. The second response (as was mine) is that they want to do this for themselves as well! What a lovely thing to do for the chimps. And I especially love that you posted a picture of each chimp enjoying their treats! Really special, thank you!!

Costco usually has huge bags of mixed nuts in shells at this time of the year. I’ll keep my eye out.

Checking out Costco is a great idea, as long as they are unsalted. 🙂

I am bringing a big bag of UNSALTED nuts over on Thanksgiving. I wanted to save postage and handling fees. 🙂 And right now you can buy them in the stores at the bulk rate so I can get as much as I want. OK I promise not to go overboard!

The chimps love the night bags! I think it’s Negra’s favorite time of day. Nuts are on the way!
