Elizabeth went a little paparazzi on me last night and while spot cleaning the playroom, she secretly filmed this video of me serving dinner through one of the windows.

I love how as excited as they are, they are all so sweet and gentle and pretty patient. Loved watching this!

How nice of the chimps to wait their turn to get the after dinner treat. They certianly know the schedule.
Candy (Tyler, Texas) says
I agree with you Chimp Pal, how nicely they waited their turn. I love it when they stick their fingers through the mesh and wiggle them for more food. Annie was sure excited and wanted her night bag in a hurry. Thanks, Elizabeth, for the different perspective of the chimps getting their dinner.
Anna says
LOL – the chimps certainly knew Elizabeth was up there. 🙂
I presume the feeding order has to do with the dominance order, and everyone knows their place? And that when the humans honor that pecking order, it helps to keep the peace?
Their enthusiasm makes me smile.
Jackie says
Good question, Anna. We do respect the hierarchy and try to serve Jamie first, since she is the dominant member of our group. This is to show her that we know who the boss is and that we respect her rank. The dominance hierarchy is slightly blurred and frequently changes beyond Jamie, so serving order becomes less important beyond her.

Heeheehee!!! I could see my legs and lower torso at the beginning! The BEST part of volunteering is watching the chimps enjoy the meal you have prepared. My peanut butter-banana sandwiches where a big hit!! Just a side note…..Mr. B doesn’t always nicely wait his turn, in fact he was quite demanding earlier in the meal….lol!!
Linda (Portland, OR) says
Our chimps certainly have more manners at dinnertime than most human families do!! Loved Mr. B head weaving and bobbing and shaking his left arm up wayyyyy high. He’s a man……………………you know how impatient they are at dinnertime!! 🙂
Margaret and Karen says
I didn’t see Jamie in this video. Where was she?
Jackie says
Jamie is in the bottom left of the screen for most of the video. She and Jody (next to the pole on the right) are both looking at the camera when the video starts. I believe Foxie is the only one you don’t see at all, because she was in the corner, just out of sight.

They know the routine and it looks like night bags are a favorite of them all. I love watching these beautiful chimps!

Negra was very excited to get her goodie bag!

awesome! another great thing that this vid demonstrates is how totally three dimensional their use of space is – they have complete use of not just north/south/east/west directionally, but up and down too – and they make it look so effortless! From this angle I enjoyed seeing them wait, halfway up the grate for the treat, and then after receiving it, just casually climb up and over and out of the frame! It’s a very neat world that the chimps live in, (now!)
