Today we loaded up a spray bottle with sparkling cider for the chimps. Everyone enjoyed the spray, although Negra had to take a break to spy on us in the mirror, and Missy and Jamie decided they would prefer theirs in a cup.

Hands and Feet, Negra nesting
I envy chimps for their ability to clasp their feet together when they are resting.
Negra built a beautiful nest this morning from a brand new bale of straw. After settling in, she looked pretty content.
Volunteer work party this Saturday!
Join us this Saturday, July 25th, for a volunteer work party at the sanctuary. We’ll be doing lots of landscaping and gardening, and we could use your help. If you are interested, please email J.B. for details. Hope to see you there!
Dinner
Chimps are adept tool users, but you can’t get everything with a spoon.
By the way, this week the chimps are enjoying the first lettuce harvest from Negra’s garden!
Kissing
Chimpanzees often kiss each other as a means of seeking reassurance. Usually what we call a kiss is really more of a soft bite with the lips covering the teeth. In this case, Annie was overly excited and she looked to Missy for comfort. Missy didn’t really have to do much – really, she just had to accept it – but that was enough to reassure Annie.
Always playing
Missy and Annie were playing inside before lunch today. Usually Missy puts on a sock before she starts to play; today she did the reverse.
Tireless Missy
The weather in Cle Elum is gorgeous today and the chimps have spent many hours outside in the sun. Missy has been so playful that she has barely stopped to eat.
