Foxie in a nest

February 7, 2011 by Jackie

Last week was the first time any of us had seen Foxie build a true nest. Today, I witnessed her doing it again and snapped a couple of photos. I’m so proud of how far she’s come.

Progress on Young’s Hill

February 3, 2011 by Elizabeth

Yesterday J.B. and volunteers Steve and Rick braved the cold to frame the climbing structures that will be on Young’s Hill. (To learn about our plans for Young’s Hill, a 2-acre outdoor habitat for the chimpanzees, watch this video.)

Jody, the blanket hog

January 12, 2011 by Elizabeth

Yesterday after playroom cleaning, instead of distributing the clean blankets around the room, we put most of them in a big pile. We figured that the chimpanzees would stop by the heap, take what they needed to build their nests, and move on. Jody, though, had different ideas. She made a beeline for the blanket mountain and immediately went to work.

Solitary play

December 30, 2010 by Elizabeth

We try to plan themed enrichment days to keep us creative, and today was troll scarf day. We tied lots of trolls to lots of scarves. Jamie likes to wear these troll scarves around her neck, but Foxie prefers to drag them around with her. Here’s what Foxie did with one of the scarves we put out this morning:

Thanksgiving Party!

November 25, 2010 by Jackie

It was an exciting morning here at CSNW! We did a lunch forage with pomegranates, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, avocados, cabbage, and bananas, and volunteer Jeani found some Brussels sprout stalks- what a treat! Right now, volunteer CJ is preparing cranberry sauce, green onions, and eggplant for the chimps dinner. I can’t wait to hear the squeaks over the cranberry sauce!

Here’s Annie with her Brussels sprout stalk:

Pomegranates are ALWAYS a hit, so we put out whole ones. Guaranteed food squeaks!

Jamie, mid-squeak:

Jody:

Since hiding the food in boots was such a hit on Jamie’s Birthday, we filled boots (and socks, and hats, and troll dolls, and various other containers) with food. Yum! It seemed to get everyone in the spirit.

Jamie:

Jody:

Burrito:

Burrito with a bottle filled with cauliflower:

We all have so many things to be thankful for, and we are all so grateful for all of you supporters! We truly could not do this without you!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Negra and her night bag

November 14, 2010 by Elizabeth

Jackie was able to get some close-up footage of Negra enjoying her night bag the other night. It really is her favorite time of the day.
