Beautify your space, make life more beautiful for the Cle Elum Seven

April 21, 2010 by Diana

Before

If you’ve been to any CSNW events, you’ve seen the work of Pam Lehnert. Pam is an expert at transforming spaces. She actually has a business doing just that. For the last eight years, she’s worked with real estate agents and others with Home Staging Consultations.

To help us reach our 2nd Anniversary Fundraising goal and give the chimpanzees three more glass windows, Pam is offering personal staging consultation services at a reduced rate of $50 per hour, with 100% of the fees going to the Cle Elum Seven.

After Pam worked her magic

You don’t have to be selling your home to benefit from Pam’s expertise, and you don’t have to be embarking on a complete remodel. Pam will work with your space and your stuff and help you transform it into something better.

For the time period between now and October 1st, she is expanding her normal work zone to include not only the Seattle area, but Cle Elum and Roslyn too, so be sure to spread the word to all of your Westside and Upper County friends!

Pam is also donating a percentage of all of her business consultation fees from January 2010 to October 1st. What a great way to give to her chimpanzee friends through her own entrepreneurship! Learn more on Pam’s Firstgiving page.

Learn Pet First Aid, help the Cle Elum Seven

April 20, 2010 by Diana

Volunteer Stephanie Perciful’s husband Tim has a cool opportunity for you. Tim is a certified instructor through the American Safety & Health Institute (endorsed by the ASPCA) to teach Pet First Aid. He’s been teaching this class for a couple of years and has a ton of experience in the field.

He and Stephanie are offering a pet first aid class on May 25th with all of the proceeds going to the sanctuary’s 2nd Anniversary Fundraising.

This invaluable class teaches, through demonstrations and hands-on training:

– How to restrain a sick or injured animal.
– How to check a pulse on a dog or cat.
– Pet CPR
– Bandaging & Splinting
– Various common pet illnesses or conditions.
– What to do in poison emergencies.
– What to put in a pet first aid kit & pet disaster kit.
– Disaster preparedness for your pet.
– And more

The class is intended for anyone who is interested in learning how to care for their pet during an emergency.

Date: Sunday, May 23, 2010 (corrected date)
Time: 9am – 3pm
Location: King County Fire District #44 near Auburn & Black Diamond
Cost: $50 (100% of the proceeds go to the chimps!)

Because this class is hands-on, space is very limited, so email [email protected] today to reserve your place. And be sure to share with others who may be interested.  Download the flyer by clicking here: pfaChimpFlyer-1. And spread far and wide by inviting your friends on Facebook.

Our creative supporters

April 16, 2010 by Diana

We are 1/3 of the way to reaching our ultimate fundraising goal of $45,000 by June 13. We can do this! I wanted to share a few ways that supporters are helping to raise funds.

Margaret Parkison: You may know Margaret from her painting of “Negra in the Sun” which was featured in the Celebrate the Seven auction last year.

Margaret has set up a donation page through Firstgiving and is giving away cards with a print of one of the paintings she has done of the Cle Elum Seven for every $30 donation.  You can find all of her work on her website. Margaret also donates 10% of the profits of the sale of any of her paintings of the Cle Elum Seven to the sanctuary, so consider that too when you’re browsing her site!

Catherine Mollyneaux just yesterday set up an Etsy shop with proceeds of her unique wildlife cards to go to the sanctuary.

Here’s the description of her work: hand embroidered  with the best quality Sulky & DMC threads. The animal decals are Single Decoupage, 2D Iris Decoupage and some 3D Decoupage. Each card is articulately finished with tissue/vellum paper inside and comes with a matching envelope

Visit her shop to learn more about these beautiful cards and to purchase.

Tamela. You may also remember Tamela’s work from her necklace “Let Freedom Swing,” featured in the Celebrate the Seven auction last year.

Tamela has set up her own Etsy shop and is featuring an array of her handmade jewelry and other items. All net proceeds on her chimpanzee items  until the end of June will be donated to the sanctuary. She’s already raised over $400!

Tamela is adding new items regularly and people are snatching them up, so be sure to visit her shop frequently!

Luck of the Cle Elum Seven

March 17, 2010 by Diana

Today, on Lucky St. Patrick’s Day, we are launching a big fundraising drive that will end on the chimpanzees’ 2nd anniversary in sanctuary and Negra’s honorary birthday – June 13, 2011. We’re announcing it to blog readers first so you can be the first to participate.

Thanks to LUSH and the blog drive initiated by Anna K., we will soon be replacing three caged windows with chimp-proof glass. We want to be able to replace three more for Negra and all of the Cle Elum Seven, but we need to make sure we cover our operating expenses first.

We do everything we can to keep our costs low, including making use of our incredible volunteer community and a great network of in-kind donations. This helps us spend 90 cents out of every dollar donated directly on our programs! The first $30,00 of the donations we receive over the next three months will go toward the day-to-day costs of caring for the chimpanzees, but we’d like to raise even more for some extra sunshine for the Cle Elum Seven. So, between today and June 13th, if we raise $35,000, we’ll replace one window, $40,000 two windows, and $45,000 three caged windows with chimpanzee-proof glass. You all know how much the chimps love the glass windows, so I know you’ll be motivated to help us reach our ultimate goal.

The first $4500 in donations will be matched by a pledge from our board of directors and staff, so we’re well on our way already! Perhaps blog readers can take on this initial challenge before we announce the fundraising to a wider audience next week. We are including income from all sources starting today – online, checks sent through the mail, facebook donations, money raised through Firstgiving, new Chimpanzee Pals, Sponsor-a-Day donations, etc. Even if you don’t have the funds to donate yourself, you can participate. Start a Firstgiving page and recruit others to donate – they are easy to set up and include fundraising tips when you sign up for your page. You could also have a fundraising dinner at your house, hold a garage sale, sell your wares on ebay, or do whatever is in your heart to raise funds for your chimpanzee friends. Let us know what you’re planning by emailing. We’d be happy to send you brochures or anything else you might need to share with others.

We will be awarding prizes to those who raise the most money, both through personal donations and through recruiting others to donate. We will provide regular updates on the blog, and you can also check out the progress and get more details on our Help Us Fundraise page.

Please join the fun in providing for the Cle Elum Seven and celebrating two years in sanctuary and give today!

Help poster Seattle

September 23, 2009 by Diana

Hey Seattleites – can you help us spread the word about the auction? We have some fabulous flyers and leave-behind cards, and we’re looking for folks to cover Ballard, Queen-Anne, Magnolia and other greater-downtown areas. Shoot Sabrina an email today and she’ll arrange to supply you with materials and let you know how we’re tracking what areas/businesses are covered.

Thanks for helping the chimps by getting folks to the best fundraising event to hit Seattle all year!

Philanthropy Day at Urban Weeds

September 18, 2009 by Diana

One of our favorite Seattle businesses is having a philanthropy day! Shop Urban Weeds all day today – Saturday, September 19th and choose to donate 20% of your purchase to Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest or three other worthy charities – including the Fremont Abbey Arts Center where Celebrate the Seven is going to be held. The Fremont Abbey is a not just a venue for rent – they have a bunch of great community programs focusing on music, visual dance and literary arts (we’d understand if you have a hard time choosing which organization to give your 20%).

In addition to supporting four terrific causes, Urban Weeds will be offering some great deals on plants and accessories for your urban gardening desires.

Hours are 10am to 6pm and their address is 4302 Fremont Ave N. Find a map here.

Art for chimp’s sake

September 5, 2009 by Diana

I am SO excited about the donations that we have for our Celebrate the Seven auction (Buy tickets)

In addition to some incredible getaway packages, wine excursions and bottles of wine, restaurant gift certificates, and tons of fun, fun stuff, we have art that was donated specifically for this auction. Many pieces are illustrations and paintings of chimpanzees, including the Cle Elum Seven. Below are just a few.

In a few days, I will post a one-of-a-kind necklace made by CSNW supporter Tamela – it will absolutely blow you away.

Be sure to get your tickets today and tell others about the auction! You can also spread the event through Facebook.

Margaret Parkinson’s 12x12in painting, “Negra in the Sun”
I have seen this in person and attendees are going to have to outbid me for this piece

Colin Redmon’s illustration of Jamie
Colin has been working for the past several months on ink illustrations of all seven of the chimpanzees for the auction – all of which are breathtaking.

Sally-Anne Ryan’s 24x20in painting, “Foxie and the Troll”
UK based artist Sally-Anne Ryan has an incredible talent for creating chimpanzee paintings:
