Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest
Jamie, the artiste
Generally speaking, for what ever reason, the chimps here don’t seem too interested in drawing or painting. However, every once in a while, Jamie will draw with a pen or crayon. So, I was pleasantly surprised today when I found the following mask (that was all white yesterday) in the Playroom during cleaning. I can only assume it was Jamie’s masterpiece because I saw her drawing with a brown crayon yesterday, and she is the most likely of the group to draw. I would say when she puts her mind to it (or feels like it), Jamie is quite the artiste.

Jamie’s boots
Jamie is still completely charmed by every cowgirl boot she meets. They don’t always fit her extra-wide feet, but that doesn’t stop her from trying.
Happy Halloween!
From new boots to pomegranates; from pears, apples, and green onions, to grapes, oranges, and pineapple coconut juice; from pinatas to new troll dolls; yesterday may have been the most exciting party at CSNW to date. The food squeaks lasted for at least 30 minutes! It was quite a day!
In addition to the video, I thought I would post a couple of my personal favorite pictures from the party– but FYI, they aren’t the ones saved for $33 donations in honor of Jamie’s day! Hope you all had a Happy Halloween!
Felicity’s Lucky Seven Day
In addition to being Halloween and Jamie’s birthday (party!!). Today is Felicity’s Lucky Seven Day. This is the seventh in a series of Sponsor-a-Days honoring Felicity Wood.
As you probably well know from the previous six Felicity Days, for her birthday this year, Felicity asked her loved ones to donate to the sanctuary. Her family and friends responded by honoring her throughout the year. Felicity was so successful in her fundraising that she raised the 2nd highest amount of anyone during our Anniversary Fundraising for the chimp-proof windows.
Today’s day is from Sam and Bailey, two of Felicity’s beloved canine family members (smart dogs!)
Here’s a close-up of one of my favorite photos of Jamie, taken by Sarah in 2009. You may have received a donation thank you card with this photo on the front:
People (or perhaps even dogs) you love would love to give to your chimpanzee friends in your honor. Just send people this link to the donation form: http://sponsoradayforchimps.kintera.org/ and this link to take a peak at the Sponsor-a-Day calendar: https://chimpsnw.org/you_can_help/donate/#SponsorADay
A new doll for Foxie
When Foxie gets a new doll that she really loves, she often engages in what I’ll call “ritualistic adoration behavior” (don’t quote me on that — I just made it up). You’ll see what I mean when you watch this video that Jackie put together:
Letting Loose
Foxie and Missy were crazy loons this morning:
