Here are the two best pics of the day! First is an action shot of Missy and Diana playing tug-o-war with a tie (note that both primates have huge play faces!). Second is a picture of Foxie all snuggled up in the sunshine with one of her babies.
First Pics
Here is a link to a page with the first pics! There will be much more to come!
Success!
Well, here’s the quick quick report: the chimps are outside and enjoying the beautiful day! I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house. Burrito was a little slow, and Negra was the last to join us, but they all came out eventually. Imagine – it may well be the first time Negra’s been outdoors since she was captured in Africa. What a long time coming.
Cheers! (We’ll post pictures when we get them loaded!).
Jamie wants OUT!
It’s a madhouse this morning – T-minus 45 minutes until the big moment! I sat down for a quick quiet minute with Jamie and asked (in sign language) “YOU WANT OUT THERE?” pointing to the outdoor area door. She bobbed her head and to my surprise, she signed OUT! We have seen her sign a few things, but OUT was a first!
More soon!
The saga of the trolls continues…
OK – I have the somewhat unpleasant duty to announce that Trixie got, um, well, a “haircut.” The day after our last installment, we found Trixie sadly lacking in the pink hair department. Foxie has been with Princess and the other new troll off and on since they were introduced, but each has also spent some time with Jamie. Jody even carried one around today! Foxie always has at least one of them with her, but has been sharing the other one. Both trolls are now also lacking hair – Jamie seems to think that trolls are more attractive sans hair.
This is a good opportunity to say that chimps are very strong and very destructive with the objects we give them, so please keep them coming!
PS. Not the best pic here, but I like what it captures: Foxie giving her baby a kiss!
Who knew?
We took these two videos the other day – one of Annie and one of Jamie. I spent the whole day marveling and saying over and over “How do they know how to do that??” What do you think? Did they learn these skills from watching construction progress outside? Or something from their past?
Late night on Highway 10
I’m working late tonight so Matt, our welder, can get some work done on the outdoor area. It’s coming along nicely! It’s fun being here at night, seeing the chimps camped out in the spot of their choosing. Here’s a peak at Negra in one of her favorite sleeping positions (all covered up) and Burrito giving himself a hug as he snoozes. Don’t be fooled by how bright it looks – that’s just a fancy camera trick.
