A few portraits of some budding new friendships (photos taken during today’s intros).

Despite having additional larger indoor and outdoor spaces to choose from, most of the chimpanzees absolutely love hanging out in Front Room 7. This space has a nice view of the human hallway (so you can be the first to spot the next meal service) and we almost always find someone nesting or lounging in this area. This morning, Front Room 7 was the prime play spot for members of Cy’s group.

Despite the November chill, the chimpanzees still seem eager to explore Young’s Hill.

In fact, the November cold creates a bonus enrichment that the chimps eagerly search for each morning…

Meanwhile, the Escher structure seemed like a solid hangout space.

Later, Foxie took it upon herself to make sure the structure was truly solid.
As she made it to the top, I caught her tapping and stomping her way along the walkway, making sure the boards were still securely mounted.

A few happy moments from the week!

Today the November rains seemed to fully set in. The chimpanzees have been nesting, napping, grooming and intermittently going for walks on Young’s Hill between cloud bursts. I caught Burrito in relaxation mode lounging in the portrait studio.

The introductions continued today with our first successful all-female quad group date in the front rooms. Dora, Honey B, Mave and Lucky all spent the afternoon together with lots of play and grooming interactions!

In the last few days some much needed rain has rolled in to soak Central Washington. This change in weather seems to have brought “Peak Fall” to Kittitas County. The colorful Autumn foliage is perhaps in its brightest and most plentiful phase. Soon, strong wind gusts will surely move in to whip the leaves away. Young’s Hill is one of my favorite views this time of year.
