I wish I knew what each chimp person is thinking as they slowly build these new friendships. Thank you Anna for zooming in on these moments and capturing the closeness of grooming. Seeing the gals in black and white places the focus entirely on their faces — lovely!

Thanks for Neggie’s profile pic too, she looks quite pleased with herself….she must have just finished a meal or is thinking of the next serving.

You’re right, Kathleen! Thanks for mentioning the black and white pics’ effects on how we view them. I hadn’t thought of that til I saw your post. Anna, Ansel Adams couldn’t have given us better!

It does my heart and soul such good to see the affection between them. Anna, thanks for the great pics. Of course, I feel the same way (in a different way, sort of) when I see pics of them squabbling over something and competing for attention or food or who’s got the biggest box to sit in or the perfect nest-in-progress. Some of my friends think I’ve gone off the deep end with pics of the chimps in every room, as wallpaper on my phone, etc. I say “keep ’em coming” (as I know you all will!). For me, the sanctuary is a bright spot in every day and a salve to my broken heart that they were so mistreated in their lives. Lovely Mave and her wisps of eyelashes…I could keep going but won’t bore you “out there” with what you all also already know for yourselves..As I reread this post you might think I’ve had a wee tipple of bourbon or Scotch, but actually this is just me waxing on in gratitude.

Marya, I could’ve written everyone of your sentences. Even the one about your friends LOL.

Beautiful photos Anna, the one of Rayne grooming Mave is so sweet..I could feel the tears starting. I have to agree with what Marya said, my friends think I’ve overdone it a little also with my pictures of the chimps everywhere. I can’t help it..I’m in love.

These photographs are beyond superlatives! It will have to suffice that these pictures capture the beauty of their subjects as well as the tenderness of the bonds which appear to be in the process of being created. In yesterday’s video, I noticed that Mave did not seem to be in a roughhousing mood (mitigating factor: that hunka-hunk of burning love, Willy B, was in the play group, and serving as a magnet for Rayne and Dora’s attention). She would walk around Dora and Rayne as if trying to observe cues that either of them were interested in grooming. Today, it appears that her wish has come to fruition.

The images on today’s blogposting defy description. As Marya and Nancy allude in their comments, I sometimes feel the need to offer the following disclaimer when speaking with friends: “Let me know if I am going on too much about the chimpanzees and the cattle at the Sanctuary.” Fortunately, they indulge me in my passion for these absolutely endearing residents of the CSNW.

Tobin, I do not think Mave was part of yesterdays meeting…..
That made me extra happy to read about her groomingsessions of today, and that she finally found someone to groom her!

I love black-and-white pictures! Take any picture in color and turn it into black-and-white and it turns it into an historical moment in time. It just completely changes it for me.

I love these photos Anna. Thank you!

Mave has an sweet old soul that attracts everyone. All these B&W pictures are priceless. I have the Chimps pictures proudly displayed in my home office where I can glance up to smile daily or just visit when I want a quite moment alone with them. Love all animals but the NW sanctuary chimps and bovines are special.

Great pictures but I especially love how you managed. to capture Negra’s image in the window so it looks like someone made a snow queen out of her! very clever!
