Remodeling a chimpanzee enclosure for accessibility comes with a whole set of new challenges. Namely, you have to contend with a chimp who still makes her own decisions.
Yesterday’s missed moments
Blustery Thursday
The wind is ripping through Central Washington today so most of us are staying cozy indoors for the day. Foxie and Negra were agreeable enough to let me take some photos of them with their respective treasured item of the day.
Today Foxie has been toting around a Princess Tiana doll (torso only of course).

Negra seems to appreciate a good Eeyore stuffy:
A Day in the Life (of Jamie’s Group)
Just an ordinary day can still seem special around here.
Winter Volunteers in Action
Spring is definitely in the air in Cle Elum, so much so that I can even hear the frogs making a ruckus in the pond by the cattle pasture! Let’s bid adieu to winter with a look back at some of the volunteers and interns who helped make the colder months more comfortable for the chimpanzees and our grateful staff. We included these photos in our weekly “Thank You” email updates to our volunteers throughout the winter and I thought it would be nice to share them as a collection.

Cy’s 36th Birthday Party!
Happy birthday to our very own celeb loving Cy Chimpanzee!!
Busy Tuesdays
Tuesdays are our staff meeting days and that means we’re pretty busy in the afternoon. It’s often a scramble finding blog content. Luckily we have Negra in the “Portrait Studio” to carry us through the rest of the day! Thanks to staff member Kelsi for grabbing these moments with The Queen this morning.
P.S. Jamie has recovered nicely after yesterday’s procedure. She is already back to walking around Young’s Hill this afternoon.
