Five Facts about Terry

October 24, 2024 by Anna

1) Terry is an all around good guy. He’s loyal and easy going. He’s a popular grooming partner in his group and a popular chase partner with his caregivers.

2) Terry’s eating habits are also easygoing. He’s not a picky guy!

3) Terry likes to lick the back of our hands, instead of the traditional “chimp kiss.”

4) Terry loves to explore the Bray! We often find him heading out for adventures, both alone and with his friends.

5) Terry is a unique guy with a fluffy exterior and a freckled face. Jenna just pointed out to me he’s also shaped like a “C.”

PS! There’s still time to vote for the 2025 CSNW Calendar cover photo!

Stay Golden Annie Bird

October 10, 2024 by Anna

First off, we’re excited to announce a giveaway with Vegancuts– a vegan, cruelty-free snack and beauty box subscription company. Every month they choose one sanctuary to partner with, support, and spread the word about and we’re thrilled that they’ve chosen CSNW for the month of October! We’re doing a fabulous give-away where you can enter to win a 3-month snack box subscription plus a CSNW Hydroflask and stickers! The contest runs for one week starting today (10/10/24) and will end October 17th, with the winner being announced October 18th. It’s super easy to enter- just go to our Facebook or Instagram, make sure you’re following CSNW and Vegancuts, like our give-away post, and tag a friend in the comments!
They’ve also given us a code to share for 30% off your first subscription box order- use code VEGANCUT30OFF at check out. 🙂

We’ve been extremely fortunate to be able to enjoy some mild Autumn weather at the sanctuary lately. Central Washington has this golden hue right now that makes the chimps pop out in our beautiful landscape.

The Continuing Adventures of Honey B!

September 26, 2024 by Anna

Honey B’s confidence with her outdoor enclosure continues to grow. Today she invited me to play a game of chase that turned into a mini walk part way up the hill. It honestly takes my breath away to think about how far she’s come. A couple hours later I went looking for her to see if she wanted to go again, only to find her further up the Bray on the Escher structure, all on her own. GO Honey B GO!

Five Facts about Negra

September 19, 2024 by Anna

1) Negra is the oldest chimpanzee living at the sanctuary. She was born in 1973 but we aren’t sure of her actual birthday because she was captured in the wild as an infant.

2) Negra’s favorite activities include sleeping in a massive pile of blankets  and watching her caregivers dance for her. Today I practiced some pirouettes in front of her and she encouraged me to keep going by nodding and gesturing from her nest.

3) Despite her curvy figure, she actually can be quite picky with what she likes to eat.  She loves lettuce, peanut butter and primate chow above most everything else.

4. Negra is a chimpanzee that sticks to her routine but can still surprise us from time to time. There’s nothing quite like watching Negra decide to head up to the top of  Young’s Hill in search of edible plants.

5. Negra is an independent and highly respected member of her group. She has rightfully earned her title of “Queen” at CSNW.

A Visit from an Old Friend

September 12, 2024 by Anna

This week we welcomed back former staff caregiver Sam to the sanctuary!   She’s visiting her chimp and human friends for a couple of days and has graciously volunteered some of her vacation time to help out around the place. Seeing a returning familiar face is quite enriching to the chimpanzees.

Burrito easily switches between play…

and walk modes…

Sam serves Terry some lunch:

Cy gives Sam a sweet greeting:

Jamie makes sure Sam’s grooming skills are up to par.
