A Visit from an Old Friend

September 12, 2024 by Anna

This week we welcomed back former staff caregiver Sam to the sanctuary!   She’s visiting her chimp and human friends for a couple of days and has graciously volunteered some of her vacation time to help out around the place. Seeing a returning familiar face is quite enriching to the chimpanzees.

Burrito easily switches between play…

and walk modes…

Sam serves Terry some lunch:

Cy gives Sam a sweet greeting:

Jamie makes sure Sam’s grooming skills are up to par.

I wonder who enjoyed seeing their old friend the most…..each individual chimp or Sam! Sam is a true blue friend, volunteering on her vacation. What a treat for everyone at the sanctuary!

I vividly recall the post of Sam’s goodbye party with the blonde mini-me-Sam-doll riding in the Gator with Luna, too.

A truly sweet reunion between Sam and her chimp buddies who understandably looked delighted to see her again.A little bitter sweet maybe?( I would be in tears saying “hi” to my beloved sanctuary friends after a separation and knowing that I would be leaving again but hey that’s just me). Glorious photos and I bet Sam took loads of photos and memories to savour. Thanks for sharing this happy day.

It’s always wonderful to catch up with old friends! Looks like they all got right back to the regular routine like you didn’t miss a day! Of course, Jamie needs to make sure your grooming skills are still up to par! Wouldn’t want you getting rusty 😉
