Lazy Play
The chimps were very playful this morning, but after breakfast, full bellies and a warm greenhouse threatened to put everyone to sleep. Thankfully, they found a way to relax and play at the same time.
Troll Play
Once they get started, Jamie and Foxie are two of the most vivaciously playful chimps I’ve ever met. Get ready to laugh, folks:
Can a chimpanzee over-lounge?
I don’t think so. As Diana said in her blog post yesterday, lounging in the greenhouse is pretty much a full-time job for the chimpanzees this time of year. It’s so nice and warm in there that we’ve even joked about installing a hammock in the human area of the greenhouse to facilitate human lounging as well. But alas, at CSNW, the humans work and the chimpanzees lounge, and we — and the chimps — wouldn’t have it any other way.

Foxie, who’s not afraid to get comfortable:
greenhouse lounging
This is the time of year when the “greenhouse” (the outdoor area converted to a solar oasis with lexan panels) really shines – literally and figuratively. Spring is really windy in Cle Elum and today was particularly blustery. But the greenhouse is completely protected from the wind. Since it was sunny, it was downright balmy in there. Perfect lounging weather.
Burrito, who once shunned the greenhouse, spent the entire day out there. Here he is getting every last morsel of food from an avocado peel:
Jody also relaxed outside in the greenhouse all day, enjoying the fresh straw:
Missy and Negra, part deux
I know I’ve said it, and other folks have said it, but I just don’t think it can be said enough- we love to watch Negra play. Missy seems to have a way with Negra that makes her almost always successful in getting Negra to play… and when she does, it brightens my day. As Diana so eloquently put it, “Neggie rules.”
