KIMA story

February 13, 2009 by Diana

Visit KIMA for the written story and to comment!

Check out that shed, in the above segment, that Jim built and Audrey and Brian helped put together 🙂

*Note that the Sippin’ for the Seven wine tasting event is in Roslyn at the Masonic Building. Vintage Vine, wine and antique shop, is organizing the event and has managed to get 22 wineries and at least one brewing company to participate! It is going to be so much fun.

On TV now!

February 13, 2009 by Diana

KIMA, the Yakima affiliate of CBS is airing a piece on Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest on their 5:00 and 6:00 news broadcasts. Tune in if you can! Once it airs, it will be on their site: http://www.kimatv.com/

I’m trying to upload a video now of Missy eating snow in the playroom…. it will be on the blog later tonight. The chimps had a good, relaxing day today.

Happy Friday!

Always busy!

February 11, 2009 by Sarah

Here’s a video to illustrate what we mean when we say that Jamie is always busy.  A quick synopsis: get a new drink container (thanks Makenzie!), inspect, drink, share with Foxie, remove straw. Get some paper (she loves paper that has already been scribbled on), get some crayons, poke at Sarah, color. Get some more crayons, put crayons in drink container.  Drink crayon water, inspect. Grab onion peel from lunch and think up something to do with it. Adjust onion peel for receipt of water, dab onion peel in water, pour water in onion peel. Use onion peel to scrub paper. Pour water into plastic brush (after removing the bristles), use onion peel to sponge up water. Suck water out of onion peel (this is a natural chimp behavior – in the wild they’ve been observed using leaves to sponge up water and then drink it). Repeat. Repeat.

Can you imagine her being stuck in a lab cage for so many years?

early Valentine’s gift from Wigt Printing

February 10, 2009 by Diana

valentines' gift from wigt

This was a Valentine’s card we received from W.I.G.T. printing today! The calling cards that they printed for us (from a design by our volunteer graphic designer Kim)  are really great. So great, that I want all of you to have a chance to get some to pass around. They are smaller than a business card, and perfect for giving to people that you talk to about the Cle Elum Seven or leaving in little stacks at friendly businesses. I’ll make them available through our online store soon.

Here are the cards:

and on the back of the Jody card:

There are three cards – Jody (above) and Negra and Burrito (below)

Valentine’s Party?

February 9, 2009 by Diana

Shelly C. thought it would be great to have another call for some party donations for the upcoming Valentine’s Day party. Let us know if you’d like to contribute – it’s kind of like passing the hat around the office, only parties for the Cle Elum Seven are way more fun than office parties. This will be their first Valentine’s celebration!!! We’re brainstorming the menu already.

Oh, and speaking of celebrations, we’re almost done mapping out the birthdays for the group. We had to choose birthdays for most of the chimpanzees because they were not known, but we know they all deserve their own special day. I’ll update y’all soon with the actual dates.

Thanks!!

Foxie “disciplining” a doll

February 9, 2009 by Diana

J.B. posted a video a few days ago with the background sounds of Foxie hitting a troll with a spoon. It’s not an uncommon occurrence these days. I consider it a good thing, because now she interacts with more forms of enrichment – spoons!  This video is of Foxie “disciplining” a Madame Alexander doll with a ladle.

Foxie, Missy, and Annie playing outside

February 8, 2009 by J.B.

Chimps often walk bipedally when their hands are full (with trolls, for example). Foxie also does this when she is playing (in this example) or displaying.
