Some older photos

May 19, 2009 by J.B.

I didn’t get around to taking any photos or video today, so I had to look through my computer for older photos that we haven’t posted yet. Cheating, I know….

There’s something about this photo of Negra that I like. She has a great drooped-lip face:

Missy has beautiful eyes and she always throws a glance at the camera when she’s being photographed:

Brachiating and swinging

May 8, 2009 by J.B.

Just a short video of chimps being chimps. Foxie and Missy take turns brachiating across the roof of the enclosure. Then Jamie and Missy play with one of the new fire hose swings around the recently donated culvert.

My favorite part of the video: When Diana (and the camera) get hit with a flying troll. It’s an occupational hazard here at CSNW!

Grooming with a tool, Negra in a blanket

May 7, 2009 by J.B.

The other day Missy was grooming a small scrape on her back with a piece of bark. Chimps love to groom injuries, so if no one else was going to help her, Missy was going to find a way to do it herself.

For Negra, it’s never too warm for a blanket. I think she just feels more secure when she’s wrapped up in something.

See you at Comedy Night!

May 5, 2009 by J.B.

Don’t forget – CSNW’s Stand-Up! for Chimps Comedy Night fundraiser is tonight at 8:00 at the Comedy Underground in Seattle. Lots of laughs for a good cause. Hope to see you there!

Spring clean-up and planting

May 5, 2009 by J.B.

The volunteers at CSNW have been busy lately! On Saturday, a large group of volunteers turned out to help clean up the property and to begin planting grass, shrubs and wildflowers. Dakota, our garden and compost master, and Jackie, our newest caregiver, have been working hard to get the garden beds ready for planting vegetables. Right now there are seven raised beds. The plan is for the chimps to each have their own garden containing their own favorite vegetables. I was too busy (and forgetful) to take pictures of the volunteers on Saturday, but I did manage to get a couple of Dakota and Jackie and the new gardens. Many thanks to everyone that has helped get this place in shape for spring.

Foxie meets Honey B

April 23, 2009 by J.B.

As many of you know, Foxie likes to invite her caregivers to play with her by throwing trolls to (or at) them. Here, Foxie does the same to our chow chow, Honey B. You might notice that Foxie isn’t all playful – its as if she doesn’t know whether she should play with Honey B or display at her. So she does some of both!

New Fire Hose Swings

April 21, 2009 by J.B.

The way the chimps react to new enrichment says a lot about them. This morning, I installed some new fire hose swings in the outdoor area. Missy tested them out playfully. Jamie had something else in mind…
