New Fire Hose Swings

April 21, 2009 by J.B.

The way the chimps react to new enrichment says a lot about them. This morning, I installed some new fire hose swings in the outdoor area. Missy tested them out playfully. Jamie had something else in mind…

Just a little bit too much forward thrust Jamie! Ouch. Great shot though!!

I’m wondering how innate her sense of geometry is, and if she first wrapped the hose over a few extra ceiling bars to make sure she could swing all the way to cage edge?

    I bet, yes. LOL.

Missy swinging so gracefully. . Jamie, though, had a plan right from the start….BAM!!! I would have dropped the camera!!!

I’ve watched it 3 times so far and am still laughing!!! JB when did you realize she was coming for you? Jamie, always two steps ahead of everybody except when she lost her grip there at the end. 🙂
    Thanks, I loved it.

I agree Anna…………….. she knew exactly where she wanted that hose to be to enable her to swing to the caging where J.B. was filming. Jamie is not always happy to have her picture taken and I think she was just reminding J.B. of that fact.

J.B. nice job on the new swings, I’m sure they will be used quite a bit.

Jamie, of course you know where the new swings need to be to get the greatest effect. Just a little “tweaking”.

Everybody said all I was thinking but can’t resist putting my 2 cents in. The girl can calculate!! How smart is she??? The perfect nighttime laugh, she keeps you (everyone) on their toes!!

I’ve watched this video at least 20 times. Love it!

Thank you for all of the photos, videos and news from CSNW that you post in this blog. I may not post a reply to every one I see, but I do see every single one of them. And I love them all!

    *hugs* from us in Canada!

That’s spectacular! The way Jamie threads the hose up over the bars and her attempt to “swing through the trees”. This will end up being a very popular enrichment and I look forward to the others doing what comes naturally!

Ahhh, Jamie calculated the angle at which to place the hose so that she could swing at a certain velocity to reach the cage bars. Or should I say camera?? What a great video to show that they are extremely intelligent and have a sense of humor! Love it!
