Our creative supporters

April 16, 2010 by Diana

We are 1/3 of the way to reaching our ultimate fundraising goal of $45,000 by June 13. We can do this! I wanted to share a few ways that supporters are helping to raise funds.

Margaret Parkison: You may know Margaret from her painting of “Negra in the Sun” which was featured in the Celebrate the Seven auction last year.

Margaret has set up a donation page through Firstgiving and is giving away cards with a print of one of the paintings she has done of the Cle Elum Seven for every $30 donation.  You can find all of her work on her website. Margaret also donates 10% of the profits of the sale of any of her paintings of the Cle Elum Seven to the sanctuary, so consider that too when you’re browsing her site!

Catherine Mollyneaux just yesterday set up an Etsy shop with proceeds of her unique wildlife cards to go to the sanctuary.

Here’s the description of her work: hand embroidered  with the best quality Sulky & DMC threads. The animal decals are Single Decoupage, 2D Iris Decoupage and some 3D Decoupage. Each card is articulately finished with tissue/vellum paper inside and comes with a matching envelope

Visit her shop to learn more about these beautiful cards and to purchase.

Tamela. You may also remember Tamela’s work from her necklace “Let Freedom Swing,” featured in the Celebrate the Seven auction last year.

Tamela has set up her own Etsy shop and is featuring an array of her handmade jewelry and other items. All net proceeds on her chimpanzee items  until the end of June will be donated to the sanctuary. She’s already raised over $400!

Tamela is adding new items regularly and people are snatching them up, so be sure to visit her shop frequently!

Spring grass

April 10, 2010 by Diana

We’ve had some crazy weather here the last few weeks. Today, though, actually felt like Spring. Most of the snow melted and revealed patches of grass, which Annie spotted when the human door to the greenhouse was opened. Annie loves grass, as you know from last spring and summer, so J.B. felt he had to give everyone a taste.

Fundraising exciting news

April 6, 2010 by Diana

Check out the just updated fundraising banana! Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Hugh and Jane Ferguson Foundation, the total for our fundraising is up to $13,435!

With 68 days to go, we are $31,565 away from our ultimate goal and three more chimpanzee-proof windows.

Now is the time to really get moving on those fundraising ideas you have in the back of your head and spreading the word about our 2nd Anniversary Fundraising. If you need inspiration, here are a couple of examples of supporters already raising funds:

  • Margaret Parkinson’s firstgiving page. Margaret is giving away art cards with prints of the Cle Elum Seven chimpanzees with a $30 donation.
  • Tamela’s Art Under Glass Etsy store. Tamela is donating all net proceeds from sales from now until the end of June of all of the handmade jewelry and other items for sale through her Etsy store. She’ll be adding more items, so check back often.

And, just because I had so much fun keeping you in suspense, we do have other exciting news unrelated to the anniversary fundraising. We’ll be sending out a e-newsletter soon with information about the great stuff that is going on. Sign up if you aren’t already.

Mr. B.

April 3, 2010 by Diana

Our coaxing and encouragement to get Burrito to spend time in the greenhouse (largely based on Burrito’s favorite activity – eating) has been really successful. Here are a couple of photos of Mr B. in the greenhouse from the cabbage wrap dinner the other night.

Negra pushing Missy around

April 3, 2010 by Diana

Below is a video of Negra and Missy playing in front of one of the windows that will soon be replaced with chimp-proof glass thanks to LUSH and the winter blog fundraising.

Update on our 3-more window Anniversary Fundraising soon – some exciting news to share!

Snow – no joke

April 2, 2010 by Diana

Today’s weather seems like an April Fool’s Day joke! See photo:

It’s been snowing all day.  It’s the first time the greenhouse has been tested with a snowstorm. The chimps have been out there all day, despite the complete lack of sun. J.B. just came by and reported that it is 66 degrees out there! And Burrito went out and played chase with him.

This morning, volunteer Denice made sure the chimps had plenty of snow to eat. Annie was appreciative.

Negra enjoyed an afternoon nesting / vine chewing session.

while Jamie used a vine to work on some project of her own making (with a boot by her side)

For all you Negra fans

March 20, 2010 by Diana

Another great greenhouse day. The ladies groomed and played out there all day, switching partners frequently.

It’s been said before, but each day I am amazed at how the greenhouse has transformed the Cle Elum Seven’s lives. Thank you again to Karen and Don Young and all who made the greenhouse possible!
