Sometimes, the best enrichment is something simple!
Ellen happened upon Mave the other day, playing with a roll of purple raffle tickets. She eventually pulled them into her nest, naturally.

I pity the fool…who doesn’t adore our very own Mr. T(erry)!
Terry has gotten a lot of attention on the blog lately, and today is no different. Everything they say about Terry is true! He is a gentle giant. Such a sweet big ole’ meatball of a guy! He’s a raspberry blowin’, hand lickin’, boot spittin’, coat scritchin’, chase playin’, elbow groomin’, Romaine crunchin’ friend to all!
If you don’t already adore Mr. T, what the heck are you waiting for?
Take a moment to spend some time with Terry and a couple of heads of Romaine lettuce and you’ll be sure to fall head over heels!
As many of you know, there are several chimpanzee residents at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest who need daily medication. Some require medication related to heart disease, such as Burrito and Cy. Some take medication for pain management, such as Foxie and Negra.
So, how in the heck do we get chimpanzees to take medications?
You know what they say, just a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down!
Most of the chimps are pretty easy, and take meds in a bit of Gatorade, such as Foxie, Terry, Lucky and Dora. A few are a little fancy and want their meds in grape juice only, such as Cy, Burrito and Mave (I don’t know why I consider grape juice fancier than Gatorade, but I do!). And then we have Willy B, Negra and Honey B. We have to get creative with these chimps! (In their defense, Willy B and Honey B are on several meds, and they change from time to time, so it’s understandable that they would require occasional changes to the meds recipe. Oh, and Negra, well, she’s the Queen!)
We’ve been using honey pretty regularly these days with Willy B and Honey B and, knock on wood, we’re having some luck!
Check out today’s video to see Honey B enjoying her new meds concoction!
Honey B and Terry have been living together, just the two of them, for a few weeks now. As you can see, they are making the most of it. Check out those play faces!
I must admit, the quality of these videos is not great. But, I had to share! I mean, those faces! Gah!

On November 17th, 2024, we had our first snowfall! (I’ve been waiting for my opportunity to share this sweet video with you and today is the day!)
Rayne was very excited to get outside, but was unsure of the snow on the decking of the chute. She made it to the end of the chute without touching her feet to the snow, but then she had a decision to make. Will she brave the cold snow on her warm feet to do a little exploring? You probably already know the answer. That Raynie is quite the explorer!
Phew! How are we feeling on this 3rd day of the new year? A little tired? In need of some rest and relaxation? After the hustle and bustle of the last couple of months, I was happy to come across Terry, Willy B and Cy having a calm moment in the greenhouse.
I invite you to take a moment with these three. Sit back, get comfy, take a deep breath and enjoy the tranquility of 3 friends enjoying a serene moment while sharing snow snacks.
We are in our final phase of our reintroduction process, and Honey B and Gordo are living together, alone. I wasn’t sure what to expect of this chimp combo. Would they fight? Ignore each other? Just bide their time until they could be reunited with their friends? Well, while they did have a squabble a few days ago (I mean, it happens, right?) they are having SO much fun together! What a joy to watch these two play with reckless abandon. The play faces!? The best!
Enjoy!
