Morning Sun

November 11, 2018 by Kelsi

What a beautiful morning!

However, even with all this beauty Jamie had some supervision to do early this morning! Construction on our new driveway is in full motion and Jamie wanted to make sure it was going smoothly. After, she made sure to get her other morning patrols in, such as, perimeter walk and laying on her barrel to supervise the volunteers cleaning.

When Jamie Makes her Bed

November 4, 2018 by Kelsi

As many of you know, Jamie is a very intricate nest builder. Her nests are often woven in the caging, tied to objects, and she is even known to build a fort or two. Jamie also must have her boots incorporated in her nest. Sometimes her boots are weaved into the nest and sometimes the boots have to be even closer to her like in her pelvic pocket. All these examples can be seen in the video or the photos!

Jamie’s finished work:

However, Jamie had to also watch the volunteers clean and lay on her barrel:

Jamie’s other nest today had her tool play set tied to it:

Ready for my closeup

October 28, 2018 by Kelsi

Foxie decided this morning she wanted some photos taken. I asked her if I could snap a few photos and Foxie didn’t seem to mind. Once I felt like I had gotten a few photos I thanked Foxie and was going to turn around to leave. I heard Foxie make her raspberry vocalization, which is usually used for catching someone’s attention. I turned around and asked if she wanted to look at the photos. Foxie came over to look and then sat back on the platform and stared at me. I asked Foxie if she wanted me to take some more and she looked at me with intent. Whether that meant yes or no, I am not sure, but I took a few more and she looked pleased!

Here is Foxie’s photo shoot:

Waking up

October 21, 2018 by Kelsi

We all know Negra is not a morning person and deeply enjoys nesting and I think we can all agree it is hard to get out of bed when it’s so warm and cozy. I found Negra this morning in Front Room 4 with all the morning contemplation. There was the “should I go back to bed” face, the “am I ready to have breakfast” thought, “maybe I should just close my eyes”, the sad eyes of “why isn’t breakfast here now”, and “okay, I am ready to eat so I can lay back down” face. Either way Negra can roll out of bed and still look great!

Octobrrrrr!

October 14, 2018 by Kelsi

While the mornings in October are beautiful, they sure are cold! However, its still warm in the sun and the chimps don’t seem to mind the brisk mornings. Look at all of them out on Young’s Hill (even Neggie)!

Negra was very eager to go outside with everyone this morning:

And then promptly came back inside to snooze a little bit more, can you tell that lump of blankets is Negra:

Missy was having a blast rippin and chasing her friends onto Young’s Hill:

Jody, Jamie, Foxie, and Annie all scattered onto the Hill:

Foxie:

Burrito:

Burrito eventually decided to go inside:

Later in the morning while we were cleaning I saw Jody basking in the sun:

While Jody was relaxing I found Burrito watching Foxie and Missy out on the Hill:

It warms my heart to see everyone enjoying their day and spending quality time together!

Foxie Lady

October 7, 2018 by Kelsi

This morning Foxie was sitting in Front Room 4, also known as the “Portrait Room”. Foxie had seen me with the camera and looked intrigued, so I asked Foxie (and boss Jamie of course) if I could take her photo. They must have both approved and I must say Foxie is a very photogenic chimp.

Bonus: Jody enjoying some morning peanuts!

Bonus Bonus: Jody taking her chow on Young’s Hill this morning!

Warm Sunshine & Lemmon’s Willow

September 30, 2018 by Kelsi

This morning everyone wanted to eat chow outside! It was a perfectly brisk morning with warm sunshine, no complaints there.

Jody in her usual spot on Young’s Hill:

Jody was breathy panting with excitement for Missy to come join her:

Jody, Missy, and Foxie heading out:

Foxie:

Annie took her chow out to a log and enjoyed some solitude:

Burrito joining the ladies:

After the Green House was cleaned we put in some new foliage called Lemmon’s willow. The chimps had never tried this before and we were interested to see who would like it. We assumed Jody would, but we actually found almost all the chimps wadging on it at one point in the day, particularly Jody, Annie, Burrito, and Missy!

Jody munching on a Lemmon’s willow branch:

Missy snagging a branch:

Missy took a branch bigger than her inside to snack on:

**BONUS**

Today’s daytime enrichment was firehose knots with nuts and seeds inside. As I was walking around and snapping some photos I found Jamie enjoying what looked like 3 or 4 knots and a troll sock tied around her ankle. She had tied it herself and had been casually strutting around with it. However, once she saw that I noticed the anklet she took it off discreetly (it was very hard to get a picture of this).

Jamie with her troll anklet:
