Foxie nest

May 25, 2011 by Sarah

It was a rainy gloomy day today so I put a video on for the chimps to watch. Foxie, Negra, Annie, and Burrito were all watching at one point or another. I noticed that Foxie was “nesting” with her trolls so I thought I’d grab a few blankets to see if she wanted them. She took about 10 (which is rare for Foxie!). I didn’t catch it, but she sat in the nest and watched TV for a few minutes. When I came back with the camera she was sitting beside it (see below – still watching TV). It was a nice big cozy nest!

Checking out what’s to come

May 5, 2011 by Sarah

Yesterday JB took off two greenhouse panels so that the chimps can see what’s going on up on Young’s Hill. They’ve been watching the trucks bring gravel, the bobcat go up and down the driveway, and the lumber arriving, but up until yesterday they couldn’t see where it was all going. Annie and Jody looked particularly fascinated, but everyone came up to the deck to take a peek. Now the chimps can start dreaming of the day they’ll be out there, just like all of the humans are!

Good morning Negra

April 27, 2011 by Sarah

Free-living chimpanzees make their sleeping nests out of branches in the treetops. At CSNW, the chimps have a few more options. Here’s a private view of what Negra used to make her nest last night. Note the peanut shells – remnants of her favorite treat!

Missy on Facebook

April 24, 2011 by Sarah

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Missy color before, but today she marched over to a box of crayons sitting on the platform, carried them to a goodie bag, pulled a coloring book out, peeled two crayons, and started to color.  “Like” Missy on Facebook and you can see the pics!

Happy Bunny Day

April 24, 2011 by Sarah

The chimps are having a great day thanks to their extended human family. The always stellar Robbi made wonderful Easter goodie bags filled with new toys and volunteers Stephanie and Katelyn arrived this morning with all sorts of edible treats. We stuffed plastic eggs with nuts and berries and scattered them around the greenhouse instead of serving breakfast, so the chimps spent all morning foraging and snacking. Supporters Lisa and Crystal Grillo have a tradition of making great food on this day and wanted to share that tradition with the chimps, so dinner is on them! Food grunts to Lisa and Crystal!

Adopt a Caregiver

January 17, 2011 by Sarah

Hi all! I’m excited to be working my way back into the land of chimpanzees and the blog!

I have a new “adopt a caregiver” request. Who wants to adopt JB? He’s been quite literally shivering his way through various projects in the garage/”shop.” The most exciting projects are welding – he just completed a welding course so that he can make benches and other good stuff for the chimps. So he really needs a shop heater. I guarantee whoever sends him the garage heater from our  Amazon wishlist (or you can send a donation to cover its purchase) will get a very happy thank you from the man himself. Thanks! (UPDATE 1/18/2011: JB HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN ADOPTED. THANKS BARB!)

Let the Bidding Begin!

October 1, 2010 by Sarah

In case you didn’t get our newsletter this morning, you better get busy! Tonight in Seattle we’re holding our sold-out event, Out of the Box. I can’t wait! Whether you’ll be attending the event or just sending good wishes from the other side of the globe, you can get in on the action by checking out our online auction here. There are some really incredible items to bid on (I’ve been dreaming about Bora Bora for weeks), and it also gives you an opportunity to make a pledge towards Young’s Hill, our next big dream. So get started bidding!

PS. On the online auction page you’ll find a new video about Young’s Hill. It’s fabulous!
