Jamie in repose

September 26, 2010 by Sarah

Our enrichment theme for today is “Jody Day.” Why should Jody have to wait for her birthday to get all of her favorite things? So we put out lots of blankets and straw for nests, cattails, fresh produce from the garden, sunflowers, and buckets of soapy water. All the chimps seemed to enjoy their Jody day. Here’s a picture I snapped of Jamie reclining amidst the straw and cattails. I love how she’s holding up her right elbow with her left foot!

We love volunteers

September 19, 2010 by Sarah

Today we had a volunteer work party. About 15 people showed up, despite pretty dismal weather, to plant bamboo, pick pears, help clean up the property, and clean the greenhouse panels. Glamorous stuff! It takes a ton of work to keep things moving around here and we are SO incredibly grateful for all the support we get, from physical labor to financial donations to troll doll packages. So thanks, y’all! We couldn’t do it without you!

Happy (late!) Birthday Karen!

August 30, 2010 by Sarah

Yesterday was a special day for one of our favorite and longest standing supporters – Karen! Karen, we love you more than we can say and we’re so grateful for how much you add to the chimps’ (and humans’) lives! I was having ‘issues’ yesterday and didn’t get anything posted, but was thinking about you! In your honor we had a big festival of fun and challenging enrichment – we hung food and drinks from hooks outside the fencing and gave the chimps tools to get them inside. Jamie, Jody, Annie and Missy worked particularly hard at solving these problems, and everyone enjoyed the treats. Video from yesterday will hopefully come later today!

Foxie’s party post #2

August 8, 2010 by Sarah

We put out tons of mirrors today because Foxie sometimes makes good use of them. But Jody was the one excited about them this morning!

I was very excited to capture this angle:

It’s not too late to make a $34 donation in Foxie’s honor today – you’ll get something fun in your inbox in return!

Foxie’s Party – Post #1

August 8, 2010 by Sarah

We’re having a fun day here! We set up Foxie’s birthday party this morning outside. Of course there were many MANY trolls to distribute (including new ones from Stephanie P. and Kathy and Rob D.), troll print material from Candy C, incredible gift bags with all kinds of goodies from Robbi and Dick, and fruit fruit fruit for breakfast. Foxie is not a big fan of veggies so we’ve declared today a fruit-only day. Here are a few pictures of the party-goers.Video and some cool Jody pictures will be posted later on today so check back!

Oh, and, we’re doing a little impromptu fundraiser for Ms. Foxie. Donate at least $34 (one dollar for each of her years!) today and you’ll get a special treat in your inbox. I’m not telling what it is!

Day #3!

July 25, 2010 by Sarah

Today is the third in a series of days sponsored by our generous volunteers (and chimps!) in honor of JB and Diana. We had a great party last night (for chimps and humans)! I know they are grateful for all the well wishes and congrats!
