Annie’s 50th Birthday Bash!

September 11, 2024 by Kelsi

The highly anticipated birthday video is here! We had such a fun day celebrating one of the sweetest chimps we know, Annie! I think Jenna explained Annie perfectly in her blog the other day. Yesterday, It was a pretty mellow party day for all the exciting food that was made! However, Annie is a low key gal, so I think she might have appreciate the exciting party that wasn’t so exciting to drew too much of Jamie’s attention. Though I do think Negra thought the party was for her, I guess we know what Negra wants for her birthday next year!

Annie’s 50th Birthday!

September 10, 2024 by Ellen Brady-McGaughey

Today has been a day full of celebration and goodies as our beloved friend Annie turned 50 years young! As Jenna talked about in her recent blog, we are not sure of her real birth date, but celebrate the occasion on September 10th each year. We went all out to celebrate this wonderful chimpanzee person with mini banana cream pies and tea in the morning, fresh sunflowers and grape vines as a mid-morning celebration, and banana nut bread mini cupcakes with a peanut butter and yogurt frosting with more sunflowers, corn, fresh peaches, tomatoes, green beans, and mini peppers for lunch. Come back tomorrow to see the video of the festivities! I’ll be sharing some sneak peek photos from the day below. Happy birthday Annie, you are so very loved!!

Burrito loved the grape vines too, but for a different reason. They were perfect for a game of tug!

Negra made a nest with some blankets, then settled in to enjoy her grape vines.

Happy Birthday, Annie!!

September 10, 2024 by Katelyn

It’s Annie’s 50th birthday celebration! Many thanks to Tobin for sponsoring this special day of sanctuary in her honor! Tobin shared this lovely message:

“I would like to sponsor today on behalf of Annie’s best friend, Missy, and in memory of her good friend, Jody. I’m so glad that Annie can celebrate her 50th birthday. Her resilience is part of the beauty of who she is as a chimp woman.”

Thank you for making Annie’s day extra special, Tobin!

Dear, sweet, beautiful Annie! How we love her. If you’re new to the sanctuary, or just want to swoon over Annie along with the rest of us, be sure to visit/revisit Jenna’s recent blog post, “50 things to know, love, and appreciate about Annie“!:

The Domino Effect

September 9, 2024 by Ellen Brady-McGaughey

The other morning, I was turning on lights and greeting the chimps to start the morning. As I turned on lights for Gordo’s group, he jumped up and initiated a game of chase with me, and off we went! Somehow, as I was running to catch up to him in the front rooms, the fun was doubled when Rayne decided to join in our game. As we ran through their spaces, Gordo decided to take a rest, but pretty soon that quick game of chase between me and Gordo had turned into a train of chimps playing together, and I was just the third (well, fourth) wheel! Rayne, Honey B, and Terry chased each other, with Honey B grabbing at Rayne’s feet playfully as they went. Once they were done playing chase and sat down to play more, Gordo appeared again and joined in on the fun. It made me think of dominoes, as it only took that one quick game of chase with Gordo to start up a chain of play among his group. I hope you enjoy today’s video!

We’re Hiring a Chimp House Team Manager!

September 9, 2024 by J.B.

Our Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest family has grown a lot over the last several years. With more chimpanzees and cows to care for and a larger staff and growing volunteer program to oversee, we decided it was time to split the Chimp House Manager position into two positions to better support the hardworking people that keep this sanctuary running. Anna will continue to manage our volunteers and interns, which means that the search has begun for someone to lead and inspire our amazing team of staff caregivers.

To learn more, click here. Please feel free to share this job posting with anyone who meets the qualifications!

Quality Time

September 8, 2024 by Grace

It’s always lovely to catch the chimps in moments of play, relaxation, or grooming. Last week I caught Foxie & Jamie spending some quality time together and it was a nice moment of calm in the middle of a busy day. I hope you enjoy it, too!

Tea Time with the Girls

September 7, 2024 by Krissy Brasfield

Today, part time caregiver Dusty set up a table and chairs for a bunch of Foxie’s dolls, and filled the cups with Gatorade.  The results are pretty sweet (or creepy, you be the judge!).  Foxie, for sure, was thrilled to enjoy a refreshing beverage with her friends.

Even Jamie enjoyed some time at the tea table.  Although, she has some opinions about who can, and cannot, have a seat at the table.
