Switching Things Up

June 20, 2023 by Kelsi

This morning, we decided to switch things up! In our “normal” schedule for sharing outdoor access, Jamie’s group goes out onto Young’s Hill from the time we show up to work until after lunch time (that is if Jamie allows us to close the Hill then). Once we have permission from Jamie and do a head count to ensure everyone is off Young’s Hill, we then allow Cy’s group access onto the Bray. This is a short term schedule until both Cy’s group gets more comfortable with the Bray and Jamie’s group gets more comfortable seeing the group of nine out there. However, the Hill and the Bray are two completely separate areas.

We wanted to experiment trying morning time Bray access for Cy’s group to see if a change in schedule would peak interest in other individuals who haven’t gone out yet. Though Mave, Dora, and Honey B didn’t go out, it was great enrichment for Jamie’s group! I am sure we will try this a few more times, as well as other ideas along the way. But really I think that they just need time. Once Cy’s group was off the Bray we did an early lunch forage for Jamie’s group, which everyone seemed to enjoy, especially Negra!

We have exciting news! We’ve been nominated in The Seattle Times, 2023 Best in the PNW Contest! Help us win this contest by voting today! You can vote once every day through June 30th by clicking here. CSNW is listed under the Services and Nonprofit category.

Negra did pretty well! She got a whole eggplant, sweet potato, and an endive and went straight back to the greenhouse to get cozy in her nest!

We put out a nut forage on the Bray for a little extra motivation. Willy B was very motivated!

Rayne was also able to score some nuts:

It seems Neggie has truly come out of hibernation! So good to not only see her participate in the forage, but to bring back more than one lettuce and plop down with it. Farmer Jo she’s not, but she did really well today! Eggplant will stay with you for a while.
Kelsi, do the Californians burst out the door the way the 7 have done? Were they itching to go out?

Voted today and will continue to do so! Go CSNW!

Fun idea to mix things up a little, even if it didn’t get “Mora-B” outside. From all these photos, it appears both sides enjoyed their time foraging outside. Dear Negra, blanket on head, happy as can be with her veggies. Fifty and going strong. Thanks for all photos.

On an entirely different note, my last two newsletters from NAVS featured Willy B!! What fun to see his handsome face pop up in my email.

since I already voted today, I cannot get in until tomorrow. but service is farther down on the list. it says something like “services and…” I can’t remember what the other words are.

okay, they are in alphabetical order. so click on Services which is in between real estate and something else. once you click on services, you have to go very far down on the list to get to nonprofits. then, within nonprofits, you have to go quite a ways down to find csnw, because there are a lot of charities. make sure that once you have clicked on it and voted, you submit the form. and I think you have to click on that twice

        SERVICES (categories) arein alpha order.
        Subcategories (nonprofits) are, too.
it’s when you have openednomprofits that youhavetoscroll a lot. and they aren’t in alpha order

So happy to see Neggie with her haul and to see that she took it back in with her to eat under her blanket! Foxie taking her blue haired baby out with her shows how attatched she is to them, I wonder if they are a comfort to her? Much like my two granddaughters who take their soft toy rabbits to bed and cuddle them at times of upset.

Happily voted, presuming non-residence is no disqualifier. Stiff competition with Seattle Men’s and Women’s Choruses. If you haven’t heard them I strongly recomend them. Saw them both at a world-wide convention of gay and lesbian choruses.
