Happy Birthday Honey Cow!

November 10, 2022 by Anna

Today our beloved Honey Cow turns 15! At CSNW, caregivers have been getting to know this sassy golden cow for the last 4 years! A very special thank you to Paulette Wrisley for sponsoring today in Honey’s honor.

Honey is easily recognized as the lightest “honey” colored member in her small herd of fellow Jersey cattle.

From front to back: Meredith, Betsy, Honey and Nutmeg:

Honey is also known for being  the sauciest member of her herd. She has no patience for the hugs we would ideally like to give her. Occasionally we can get away with a few scratches or a little brushing, but in general we respect Honey’s wishes and give her the personal space from humans she seems to appreciate. I think if Honey could plan an ideal birthday party for herself, she would like a bale of hay delivered to her barn and to be left alone with her family, and that’s just what she got today!

Here are a few of my favorite photos of Honey taken by my fellow caregivers throughout the seasons!

So does their coat get darker as they age? Because in that photo the two moms are darker than the kids. Just made me wonder…

    Happy birthday Honey Cow!

Happy birthday Honey! I applaud your independent spirit. Here’s to another year of doing as you please and being surrounded (but not to closely) by people who love you for who you are.

(Same could be said for Meredith. Love how she’s facing in the opposite direction in the top group photo. ? Very funny photo. Looks like they are all waiting on line for their turn on the scratching post!)

Her eyes in those pictures seem to be saying, “and what are you looking at?”

Thanks for your sponsorship, Paulette. Ohhhhhh, I want to hug Honey’s neck and kiss her nose!! Those deep-souled eyes! I’m so happy to be celebrating her birthday with all the sanctuary residents, caregivers and this marvelous community! Some of you readers might recall from about 2 years ago I mentioned in a comment that I grew up in Texas where as a child we would drive around in the country nearby on Sundays and my father would “moo” loudly at the cattle that were grazing. Sometimes they answered back & when I was very little I’d go into peals of laughter (well, uncontrollable giggling actually) when they would respond. Thanks for the wonderful pics, Anna! Happy Birthday, Honey!

Happy birthday, Ms. Cow, and thank you for endowing your strong personality onto your daughter. Meredith certainly received some good “home training” from her mama. Or is that “mooma”?
