Join us this Saturday, July 25th, for a volunteer work party at the sanctuary. We’ll be doing lots of landscaping and gardening, and we could use your help. If you are interested, please email J.B. for details. Hope to see you there!

Ice on a hot summer day
The chimpanzees have spent a lot of time outside today, so we offered ice cubes as a cool treat.
Photo contest
Thanks to Clocktower Media, the CSNW website will have a new look soon, and you can participate! You can help build the site by choosing your favorite photos to be used as profile pics on the new individual pages for each of the Cle Elum Seven. Just go to the contest page and cast your votes! We’ll also be making the winning photos available for purchase.
If this is the first you’re hearing of this, you are not on the CSNW e-newsletter list (or you haven’t checked your email recently). Sign up here now to receive news from the sanctuary.
Remembering Carole
Today in Florida, a memorial service will be held for Dr. Carole Noon. Carole was an amazing soul and I can’t even begin to think of how the world would be for captive chimps right now if not for her. She made a difference! You can watch the memorial service live at 5pm ET here. Event ID: 954-775, Password: cnoon (lowercase).
Here’s the blog entry I wrote just after she died. And here’s a touching tribute from Jane Goodall. After suing the Air Force (who does that!?) and succeeding at rescuing 21 chimps, she turned her sights to the notorious Coulston Foundation, where many of the Cle Elum Seven’s sons and daughters were suffering in horrible conditions. Most or all of the Cle Elum Seven spent time at Coulston before they came to CSNW. Carole succeeded at putting Coulston out of business and rescued hundreds of chimps from a miserable situation. She was an inspiration and I hope you’ll honor her memory and her work today.

The play never stops for Missy and Annie
Here are some action shots from right after lunch. First, note the sock – which is Missy for “Let’s play!” Annie is always happy to oblige. I love Annie’s big playface!
