Halfway there!

August 31, 2008 by J.B.

There’s been a great response so far to the washer/dryer fundraising drive initiated by our blog community. At this point we’ve received over $1,300 towards a heavy duty washer and dryer to help us keep up with all of our chimp laundry. We’re still doing research to find the best equipment, but we’ll let you know as soon as we settle on something. Thanks and keep up the good work!

That’s great! I’ve mailed my check off to Chimpanzee Santuary NW at the P.O. Box on the website & made a note on the check that it is for the washer & dryer fund! I hope others can do the same…mine was not for much but I just thought that every little bit will help.

I want to be able to send some nice cozy quilts for the chimps for the winter (Margaret & Karen said earlier that they can’t have quilts right now because the existing washer & dryer can’t handle them).

Thank you for the update! I’m so glad we are halfway there!!!

I will send a check with my care package and you can use the collection money on the “Change for Chimps Can”, or do with ot what you may, I think there is a good amt of cash in there ! If you do not have enough funds when you are ready to purchase I can send another check possibly next month! If I could stay off ebay buying troll dolls it would help!!! But anything to put a smile on Foxies face!!!

It is not the amount of the giving, it is the thought and the love that comes with the money, and you are right every little bit helps. I told the clen up guys at my work to save all the recycle items and we can turn them in for change for chimps, every little but helps!!!!!

Look what Oprah did with her change ideal…she built schools, books and put children in college!!!!!!! Change adds up, I have a 5 gal jug in my closet hidden behind the clothes so I cannot see it, that is my change for chimps jug, so hopefully by next year when we want to give to purchase something big I can give what I can save over a years time!!!!!

Yes, it is absolutely right, that every little bit helps. If 100 people sent $30 we would have it all! It feels so good to be half way there in only a little over two weeks! Good for the CCCs!

Shelley C. I have also been on ebay getting troll dolls. I wonder each time if I am bidding against someone else who is getting them for the Chimps!! I dropped off 5 this passed weekend and have more coming in the mail this week. Ebay can be as addicting as the Chimps.

That wasnt you yesderday I lost to was it, the large troll bride????? Yes ebay is very addicting, I never tried it before, but since we need troll dolls and they have many, itis the place to buy them. I have to delete all the emails that come in , if my husband knew how much I were spending, I would be in divorce court, oh well, I would have more money to spend on the chimps that way….just kidding…lol…well maybe not…all depends on the day!!!!!!

Oh and I am on the site more then any other site ever!! I am on first thing on the am when I get to work, while at work, when I get home, before I go to bed and sometimes even in the middle of the night when I have insomnia….I AM ADDICTED TOO!!!! We will have to start a CSBA (Chimp Sanctuary Blog Anonymos) lol

I also feel that sometimes I need to see a shrink because they are all I think about, not just the ones here, but all over the world!! I worry so much about their weel being, about their suffering and love to read about the ones that have been saved and for the ones where it came too late, it makes me cry. That is why I need to DO SOMETHING BIGGER than this to help…..I am trying, but giving money and gifts just does not make me feel like I am doing enough!! I want to go back to school and make a difference for these poor souls that are soooo taken advantage of, it is so sickening to me!!!!

Hey Shelly C ~ you might already be aware ~ and I don’t know whether the courses are the type you’d be interested in, but the Humane Society has an on-line University for animal welfare.

    September 1, 2008 at 2:24 pm

Really…wow I will check that out! There are alot of online courses, and because I live up in the hills in No Calif. I have to commute 1 1/2 hours to be anywher, I hate it but cannot sell my house until the market changes. Thanks Shelly K, hope you are having a great Labor day, and everyone ekse as well! I am just baking, made cupcakes and now butterscotch oatmeal cookies…just what I need. Since I turned 40 I have to have my sweets!!!!

Shelly C. You will have to let us know when you are going to be in Cle Elum on vacation next year, maybe we could have another party and make some more things for the Chimps.

That sounds like the best vacation a gal could ask for!!!!!! I have never been to Washington, my sister lived there for a short time so I was not able to visit, it sounds like a very beautiful place!!! I could not think of anything better then meeting you all and making enrichment items for our 7 beautiful new friends!!!!

Shelly C ~ I’m from Freeland, WA ~ which is on Whidbey Island, off of the coast just north of Seattle.

Also, Passado Safe Haven offers a Sanctuary 101 workshop once a year. People come from all over the country to attend the annual event. It lasts several days and offers multiple sessions on how to successfully start and run your own animal sanctuary.

    Hello fellow CCC’s:

I’m checking in from Boston Massachusetts, many a day I wish I lived closer to the sanctuary so I could volunteer.
Maybe someday when the sanctuary can accept visitors, I can plan a trip to Washington and make the sanctuary my #1 place to visit. It would be a dream come true to meet our 7 in person. Has anyone here volunteered at the sanctuary? What was it like? I would especially like to meet Jamie, she is so cool, so smart and my chimpanzee pal.

Love and kisses to our beautiful 7

Hi, I live in Snohomish, WA, north and east of Seattle and I also volunteer at CHCI, the Chimpanzee Human Communication Institute part of Central Washington Univ. where Washoe the first chimpanzee to acquire sign language lived and where 3 of her family still does. Same place where Diana, JB and Sarah went to school. It’s an amazing experience. I don’t have direct contact with the chimps tho, they are very strong and can be rambunctious. They are amazing!!

We live in Seattle, Washington. It is nice to hear where everyone lives.

Shelly K is where you live an actual island??? Very cool! We have islands out in the middle of Konocti ( 100 shore miles of lake) where we went to that concert Friday night, and by the way I am too old for rock concerts, drunks everywhere, not my cup of tea! On the drive there I told my husband wouldn’t be great if I could buy an island out there for a sanctuary??? He thinks I am nuts, that is all he hears about these days!!! The woman on ebay ( I won another troll doll) asked me if I was sure I wanted to send a vintage 20 yr old troll doll to a chimp, and my answer was whatever makes Foxie Happy! I really didnlt realize that troll doll are collectors items, so Foxie is going to have quite the collection! Almost bed time, so I will talk to you all tomorrow! Sweet Dreams! Love to the 7 Souls from Heaven…sweet dream my beautuful friends!

Everyone is from Washington, how did you all get a California girl in this group? To tell you the truth I cannot remember what led me to the Cle Elum 7, but I am so happy whatever it was!!!!!!

  28. Shelly Knapp says

    September 1, 2008 at 7:26 pm

I love it, Shelly C, that you are giving Foxie collectors items! I laughed out loud, I think that’s great 🙂 She deserves the best after all. There are CCC’s from Boston, New York and Southern CA that just haven’t had a chance to chime in yet. Probably other places, too. I’m also learning that quite a few folks read the blog but don’t necessarily write in. I would love it if this became an international connection. The Chimp Eden site has supporters and blogger from countries all over the world ~ spread the word of the 7 from Heaven!!!!! 🙂 Love to all and have a good night.

Hi Shelly, I too get stuff for the chimps on ebay. When I buy something I tell the seller who it’s for and the response has been wonderful. Most are so interested and generous, adding another item. It’s another good way to spread the news. I include the CSNW website and the sellers seem really appreciative! I find it really amusing that we are acquring these collectible trolls for group of chimps who do all sorts of strange things to them!!

  31. Shelly Campbell/SR. CA says

    September 1, 2008 at 8:31 pm

I include the site also so the sellor will understand, and usually they write me back expressing what a wonderful thing we are doing. I started a petition on care2 regarding animal abuse and I had signers from Greece, Italy, Germany all the way around the world. That is one way to get a million hits on this site and also maybe bring in some more donations, I can start a petition with the letter from discovery mag and reg csnw as the good that comes from opening a sanctuary, I guarantee you would not beleive how many people would be visiting this site from around the world. Let me know, I can work on it next weekend!!!! Collectors items for the chimps, they deserve it as when these things were new they were locked up and didn’t have a chance to play with them right? Watch for a few packages this week Diana, they all say Foxie, but you know they are meant for everyone!

Hi all – I am from Kirkland, WA which is just east of Seattle. Shelly K. I have applied to volunteer at CSNW and wondered if you would like to do the same thing and carpool? JB is sending me the information and I will then be going over for an orientation. It would be fun to have a partner. I get up to Langley all the time. Maybe we can meet next time I am over there. Since school just started it will be a while. I’m a teacher.
By the way Shelly C. – Whidbey is a real island and if you want to go to the south end you take a ferry, with or without your car. The north end is connected by a tall bridge to another island. Then you cross another bridge to get to the mainland. When you come up next summer plan on visiting. It is pure heaven over there.
Shelly K. – Thanks for the information about the online courses. I am going to check into them, too.
I am enjoying this group and also hope some day we can meet to celebrate the Cle Elam 7.

I just want Jeani and Shelly K to know I am very jealous that you all are close enough to go and volunteer! I would probably want to work there every spare minute I had, I would probably get fired from not wanting to leave, I sure do not have that issue at my present paying job!!!!I will just have to do what I can from California!

  35. Jeani Goodrich says

    September 2, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Shelly C. I know what you mean. If I could I would call in sick just to spend time at the Chimp House. But I do consider myself lucky to live within a 2 hour drive so I can volunteer at least once a month. I haven’t started yet. I’m still in the orientation stage and can hardly wait!

  36. Shelly Campbell/SR. CA says

    September 2, 2008 at 8:48 pm

So exciting!!! When you see the gang make sure you blow kisses and hugs for me!!! I am going to out a picture of me with my fur babies in my carepackage just so they can show them a picture, if they would, I am sure they have better things to do and they probably do not have time for that but what the heck, worth a try. I want them to especially see my 170# Rott giving mommy kisses, like I will ever know what the outcome is!!!! My favortie part of the day is going to the site to see if there are new pics and read the blog, but for the staff it is probably not as exciting…who knows!!!

  37. Shelly Knapp says

    September 2, 2008 at 8:51 pm

Hey there Jeani ~ would love to meet for coffee, that’d be really fun….please do let me know next time you’ll be in Langley 🙂 Can you send me an email off line so we can go into a bit more detail about the potential of volunteering/carpooling as well? I’m at [email protected].

Shelly C ~ thanks for the info on Jenny.

    Shelly K,

What do you think about having a monthly online CCC’s Newsletter and maybe starting our own separate CCC’s forum? We could also have a section in the newsletter for questions about the chimpanzees and the NW sanctuary. That would make it easier on the CSNW humans. They wouldn’t have to search through all the posts on the blog and could answer them at their convenience. Our first newsletter could be introductions of everyone with photos. They could tell us what they do for work, for fun, about their children, pets, and anything else they would like to share.

  39. Shelly Knapp says

    September 3, 2008 at 7:25 am

Good morning Tamela ~ I love it! The big question would be who might have time and want to take the lead on it. Unless there is an on-line format where everyone could simply go and contribute thier paragraph/s & photo’s?

  40. Tamela says

    September 3, 2008 at 7:47 am

I work for myself and would be willing to do the newsletter if someone else would volunteer to set up the forum.

  41. Shelly Campbell says

    September 3, 2008 at 7:49 am

You know we could always build a myspace for CSNW, I have The Fauna Foundation in my frineds, but it is the volumteers that works on it, we could all contribute to the buliding of the space and it has a blog spot on the page. It is very easy to use and we can add pretty much anything. We can even put a link to donate to the sanctuary on the page. I have a myspace, if anyone wants to see it let me know, it is very fun to build and you can put links to anything you want plus photo ablums, and our pictures would be in there with all the info we want on each other.????? The CCCs could have the password and one person in charge of the password ( say Diana) in case (just in case) someone needs to be cut off from the password!!!

  42. Shelly Campbell says

    September 3, 2008 at 7:49 am

I am more then willing and able to build the space!!!!

  43. Tamela says

    September 3, 2008 at 7:58 am

That sounds great Shelly C. So with the Myspace page we wouldn’t really need a newsletter or a forum right?

  44. Shelly Campbell says

    September 3, 2008 at 8:07 am

No, everything can be done on the space. It would be great. I am already looking at backgrounds. We can have a jungle background or a chimpanzee background, what do you think???

  45. Shelly Campbell says

    September 3, 2008 at 8:09 am

I am home sick today, so it would be a great day to get it started, so if you guys want I can just start it and if JB and Diand say no we can delete it????? Just to get an ideal, I can make a quick page post a link and everyone can vote yea or nay!!!!

  46. Shelly Campbell says

    September 3, 2008 at 8:10 am

Also when we sign up we need a primary email, someone atht would get emails for all the new messages and new friends, who should that be ????

  47. Shelly Knapp says

    September 3, 2008 at 8:13 am

You go girls!!!! I work from home but have to get focused now. Will check back with you guys later ~ very fun, I hope it’s something the Sanctuary will be okay with 🙂 TTYL!

  48. Tamela says

    September 3, 2008 at 8:23 am

I think the Myspace page should be set up for the CCC’s not for the CSNW. It should be a place we can discuss anything and everything instead of doing it here on the CSNW blog.

  49. Shelly Campbell says

    September 3, 2008 at 8:23 am

I sent an emial to JB asking if it was okay to build a temporary space and if they do not approve we can delete, I will wait for an answer and proceed, and as soon as I get it started I will post alink!!!

    Wish us luck!!!

  50. Shelly Campbell says

    September 3, 2008 at 8:25 am

I asked JB who they would like to get the initial friend requests and comments, I think they should have the decision, don’t you??? There will be a link to the sanctuary so people can donate money so I think they sould have the say, just guessing!!!
