RIP Billy Joe, Pablo, Annie and all the chimps that have died and are sick because of the hands of humans, scientists that say they neeed you because of humans. This article is very gutwrenching, the facts, the real facts of what is happening across the United States of America to the chimpanzees, whom we all love. I would give anything to help these poor souls. I really do not understand how these people can torture these animals and then go home have dinner, or a beer and go to bed and sleep well at night, it kills me. I couldn’t stop thinking of the chimps across the us before, now that I have read this article, God help me to help the chimps get out of those damn cages and bring them some sort of sanity in their, what is left of their life, please God help me to help them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Diana for posting the article, evidentally you had seen the article I posted was WRONG, I wondered how that article had made such an impression on Keith, it explained about what was going on but this article, oh my God, it does not compare!!!!!

Heartbreaking! I am so happy so many people are supporting the legislation to stop such heartless cruelty. No animal should be treated like these chimps were! I think this kind of treatment is evil!
I thank God for people like you who can give these chimps some well deserved freedom, happiness, and most importantly love. They deserve endless good things with what they have lived through!
Kudos to you all. May God bless you all for your selflessness and big hearts. Thank you!

Great article! I remember reading it in Discover Magazine when it was first published.

Billy Jo was a real charmer. He was always the first one to greet us when we pulled up the driveway to the chimphouse and he could hardly wait to see if we’d brought any of his favourite treats (which of course, we always did).

Billy Jo passed away suddenly on Valentine’s Day in 2006 and we still miss him so very much.

I noticed that some of the text is sort of “smooshed” together and missing in the archived version of the article at the link that Diana posted, but the full text of the article (including photos) can be seen in its entirety here:

Thank you Roslyn, I noticed when I sent it out on myspace it was not readable, I am sending that article to everyone, from Ingrud Newkirk to Pam Anderson and anyone and everyone else that loves animals, I also posted the whole article on myspace page, under Heroes!!!! Because they are all my heroes, they never have given up their fight thru all of the pain and misery that was inflicted upon them from humans, and it seems even after all they have been through they will still trust a human, and that to me is a true HERO!!!!!!!!!

Roslyn – that story that Arryn (spell?) Ketter told about Tom with the paint. all the colors were available to him, but he wanted the black paint .. she couldn’t get the lid open and encouraged him to use the other paints .. he insisted that he wanted the black paint .. so when she got it open for him, he staarted using it to paint his pink foot black .. .. he was so aware of his foot being different
I got so emotional reading that … I just wanted to smooch him!

There’s a great video from a few years ago – Chimpanzees – an Unnatural History – that has beautiful footage of Billy Jo and fauna and lots of other sad and hopeful info and stories. I just looked, it’s on Amazon and so worth it if you haven’t seen it.

Dee and I met (electronically 😉 on this blog and she was so kind and sent me a copy of the DVD, “Chimpanzees, An Unnatural History”. I know others have written about it on the blog, but I just have to add my 2 cents. For everyone who visits this site, it really is an absolute MUST watch. It’s so beautifully done. It’s an exceptional art to be able to express the reality of what happens to the chimps without being so graphic that you have to turn away. So much of the film is beautiful and the scenes directly related to the nightmares of reality, are not graphic. Everyone needs to see this. Please, please watch it. Then blog here and let us know your thoughts.
