Photographing the elusive Foxie

April 19, 2014 by Diana

One super cool and unique auction item we have for Hoot! is the opportunity to photograph the chimpanzees with a lesson from professional photographers Karen Ducey and Dean Rutz, using long telephoto lenses and other professional-grade equipment! This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities!

Maybe the winner will be able to catch some photos like these of the first elusive, then charming Foxie with her troll dolls on Young’s Hill:

Troll hair

August 19, 2011 by Debbie

Foxie’s trolls often end up “scalped” and lose their hair. It seems like both Jamie and Jody might do the troll-scalping, although we don’t always catch it happening. One afternoon Jackie and I witnessed Jody rip this troll’s hair out while casually resting on top of the wooden platform outside.

We have some troll dolls that are quite odd in my opinion—they don’t really resemble the traditional troll doll and have a different type of hair. For some reason these trolls don’t lose their hair as often, if ever. In this troll line-up, you can see a traditional troll still with its hair, one that’s been scalped, and two of the “odd” trolls still with hair.

Foxie still interacts with these ones…

and maybe she’s on a mission to begin their hair removal too?

Foxie – so much to love

August 6, 2011 by Diana

I had the following conversation with Debbie this morning:

Me: (smiling) I love the way Foxie moves her bottom jaw up and down when she food grunts.

Debbie: I love everything that Foxie does.

And that about sums up how we all feel about Foxie. We are looking forward to celebrating her birthday in just two days!

Here’s a little video of the Loveable Foxie that I took last night in that quiet time after dinner:

Trixie the Troll

July 18, 2008 by Diana

Well, Sarah and I discussed it this morning and decided on the name Trixie for Foxie’s Troll doll. Thanks for all of the suggestions!!Trixie is still with Foxie – day five of their relationship, I believe. Here is a photo from yesterday of Foxie eating her after-dinner treat (when J.B. and I worked at Fauna, we learned to give the chimpanzees “night packages” – paper bags handed out individually to each chimpanzee. At CSNW the bags have sugar-free cereal, dried fruit and nuts. The chimpanzees love this nightly treat!)
