Does she blow raspberries, by chance? I think Foxie has one of the most expressive and animated faces I’ve ever seen in a chimpanzee, gotta love her!

Oh yes. Fosie is a champion of “raspberrie” blowing. She lets you know what it is she wants, no question.

Thanks, Denice. There have been a few videos where I’ve heard a few raspberries in the background. Your reply has made me wonder, what other techniques do the chimps use to get your attention? Let’s see raspberries, blanket waving, what else is used?

Annie and Burrito also frequently makes the raspberry noise when grooming others and for attention getting. Other popular attention-getting noises include clapping (Negra), slapping the head or arms (Jamie) and banging the fencing (especially Negra and Burrito). Missy nods her head up and down rapidly and Jody stares intently. I’m sure I’m missing a few…

I just adore our Foxie! I agree, Candy. She does have a wonderfully expressive face and eyes!
