It’s been a busy week in the chimp house here preparing for Valentines Day tomorrow but not so busy that we didn’t have time to collect an assortment of videos to share with all of you!
Foxie
Blue Skies
Though the air might be chilly, the skies are blue, and for January, that’s really all we can ask for! As soon as the sun peeked through the clouds, Jamie’s group couldn’t resist soaking up some much needed Vitamin D. A little sunshine can do wonders, especially in the middle of winter!
Burrito, Annie, Foxie, and Missy were ready to get out and explore:
Burrito climbed up and enjoyed the view:
More of Burrito:
Missy adventured past the path and into the snow:
Foxie came out with her doll to see what was happening:
Jamie went out onto Young’s Hill for a quick lap and then tried to get some snow to go. Unfortunately, this snow is pretty hard and compacted so it wasn’t very fruitful:
If you’re looking for ways to support the chimps, our Wish List is a fantastic way to make a direct impact on their care!
The One with Foxie
Nestled in her greenhouse, Foxie and her baby doll are sharing a quiet moment with us today. Just us, the warm air (from the heater), and the gentle rustle of leaves – sometimes the simplest moments are the sweetest, so enjoy this moment of zen
Foxie’s New Dolls
A Very Merry Forage
Today the chimps enjoyed some delicious dried fruits and veggies, thanks to Carol H. who won them in our Comfort and Joy Auction! Thank you, Carol, for bringing joy to the chimpanzees today in the form of a delicious morning forage! We also were able to purchase some dried fruit powders (cherry, tangerine, dragon fruit, and strawberry! So exciting!), which we used to make juice for the chimpanzees. Today, Foxie and friends tried the cherry fruit powder turned into juice, and Foxie was especially excited for this special treat.
I also wanted to share a big thank you to Kathleen C. for her winning bid in the Comfort and Joy Auction for carabiner clips! These are a gift for the humans of the sanctuary, as well as the chimps, and we are so excited to have them. We use carabiner clips every day to hang enrichment puzzles for the chimpanzees and having to search high and low for that last needed clip is never fun. We now have plenty of carabiner clips for our current enrichment needs, and we are so very grateful!
Foxie’s New Dolls!
If you know Foxie, then you know of her love for troll dolls! It’s always exciting when she gets new ones and we’re so grateful to Ellen G. for her winning bid in our Comfort and Joy Online Auction on these new dolls for our sweet Foxie! I’m personally obsessed with the fashion style for the one on the right. The spot on hair match with the fuzzy outfit? Classic.
Before putting them out in the greenhouse, Katelyn went to show them to Foxie and Jenna snagged a few photos!
A blurry, but excited, Foxie!
I came back to check on them later and they had disappeared. 🙂
Bonus Photos: This morning, Negra stole the spoon that her meds were given to her on and carried it around with her a little bit. Which made for a fun photo shoot! (Don’t worry- we got the spoon back 🙂 ).
Off With Your Head
Today, we put out two new stuffed animals that I thought Burrito would really like. However, Burrito never got the chance to play with them… Interestingly enough, Foxie who never really has cared about stuffed animals gravitated to them. She played/inspected them for a short time and then moved on. Later, Sabrina and I went to clean the front rooms, when we happened upon a crime scene, a rather graphic one at that. Both victims, stuffed animals, had the same fate- both had been decapitated, that is a pattern! But who would do that?
Foxie is known to be:
Sweet:
Silly:
Kind:
Loving:
You’d never know the more sinister side:
Again, we apologize for such disturbing photos. We suspect the stuff animals only made it 30 minutes after Foxie received access to the Playroom. The evidence does show that Foxie was last seen with the victims and was heard beating her babies, which is a common game she plays, in the front rooms where our first victim was found. This game is reported to get a little loud and often involves a hammer, spatula, or object to “hit” the babies. Foxie was also seen fleeing the crime scene. So we are pretty sure it was Foxie, the one you’d never suspect…
