The chimpanzees have spent a lot of time outside today, so we offered ice cubes as a cool treat.

Photo contest
Thanks to Clocktower Media, the CSNW website will have a new look soon, and you can participate! You can help build the site by choosing your favorite photos to be used as profile pics on the new individual pages for each of the Cle Elum Seven. Just go to the contest page and cast your votes! We’ll also be making the winning photos available for purchase.
If this is the first you’re hearing of this, you are not on the CSNW e-newsletter list (or you haven’t checked your email recently). Sign up here now to receive news from the sanctuary.
Remembering Carole
Today in Florida, a memorial service will be held for Dr. Carole Noon. Carole was an amazing soul and I can’t even begin to think of how the world would be for captive chimps right now if not for her. She made a difference! You can watch the memorial service live at 5pm ET here. Event ID: 954-775, Password: cnoon (lowercase).
Here’s the blog entry I wrote just after she died. And here’s a touching tribute from Jane Goodall. After suing the Air Force (who does that!?) and succeeding at rescuing 21 chimps, she turned her sights to the notorious Coulston Foundation, where many of the Cle Elum Seven’s sons and daughters were suffering in horrible conditions. Most or all of the Cle Elum Seven spent time at Coulston before they came to CSNW. Carole succeeded at putting Coulston out of business and rescued hundreds of chimps from a miserable situation. She was an inspiration and I hope you’ll honor her memory and her work today.

Families
Super supporter Candace C. has been doing some amazing work tracing the family trees of captive chimpanzees in the United States, including those of the Cle Elum Seven. We’re all very excited today because Candace just found one of Negra’s daughters, Angel, who is safe and sound at Save The Chimps. The mother-daughter resemblance is striking:

Thanks, Candace!
Play!
Put up your feet and watch this looong and lazy video of Foxie and Jamie’s looong and lazy play session. Turn up your volume for lots of chimpanzee laughter.
IDA-Africa Auction
There are still a few months before CSNW’s big Oct. 2nd auction fundraiser, Celebrate the Seven, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait to go to a great auction that has the added bonus of helping chimpanzees.
Here’s a message from IDA-Africa about a terrific event and a unique opportunity to learn about an amazing sanctuary in Africa:
You’re invited to celebrate IDA-Africa’s 10th Anniversary with Founder, Dr. Sheri Speede, and “Seattle’s Best Comic,” Peggy Platt, as emcee. The 10th Annual Fundraiser and Auction to benefit IDA-Africa and the Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center in Cameroon will be held on Thursday, July 23rd at the Lakeside Event Center. Dr. Speede will share chimpanzee rescue stories and the details of IDA-Africa’s groundbreaking conservation campaign. Enjoy a spectacular view of the city from Lake Union while bidding on fantastic silent and live auction items, sipping on wine, and savoring the culinary delights of CaterArts. Click here for more information. Tickets are going fast and can be purchased on-line. We hope to see you there!
