More nesting

December 10, 2009 by Elizabeth

The other day we caught Jamie making a pretty impressive mixed-media nest out of carefully selected materials from the playroom. Her favorite nesting location seems to be the corner right next to the big doors to the playroom, perhaps because she can easily keep an eye on the humans from that vantage point. For this nest, she collected a cardboard box, some blankets, a ball of yarn, a bag, a shoe, and a giant teddy bear. Shortly after she settled down in her masterpiece, Foxie came over to check things out.

As J.B. mentioned in his blog post the other day, Jamie often weaves blankets or other materials through the wire mesh of the caging as part of her nest. You’ll notice that she does that with some yarn in the beginning of this video.

You guys have no idea how happy I am that the giant teddy bear got some milage. I bought it for my girlfriend last Valentines Day and after time thought it would make a great donation item.

the little noises made at the very end when the yarn pulls the nest appart… adorable.

and the way she nuzzled head-first into her masterpiece! how cute.. 🙂 these guys make my heart smile every time i watch them.

Dana, love the teddy bear you sent.

Adam, I liked the way she nuzzled her head also. You know I have to get my pillows and blankets just right before I get into bed, just like the chimps prepare their nests.

Hopefully, Foxie’s taking notes on nest making and we’ll one day see her in a mixed media troll infused, soft nest.

Such precision in the building! I love watching them do anything. Foxie will hopefully get in the habit of making nests one day. I would love to see her curled up in a soft nest with all her babies around her.

I love that — mixed media nests. I also love the shoe in the hip pocket, and how Jamie lies down and puts her foot up. Ah — that’s the good life!

I wish I could make a nest in the middle of the day and sack out in my office!:-)

Dana – On the day after Thanksgiving the big teddy bear was in with the chimps. It was time to clean the playroom and when we do, all the enrichment is taken out to wash. Jodie started in the front rooms and dashed back for the teddy bear so it wouldn’t get taken away that day. It was fun to see. You done good!!

Jamie and Foxie were so sweet together and the ending was too funny. I felt so bad for Jamie after all that work, but it really was funny.
