Today we celebrated Missy turning 48 years young! Life with Missy is a very fun ride. She is a loyal friend to her very core, she would do anything for her family, she is adventurous, she is attentive, she is thoughtful to the ones she loves most, and also she is fast! As you can see from the video, Missy was not disappointed in her party. Watching Missy try to carry 7 giant tomatoes in her arms is an image that I hope we all cherish forever. Something that may not surprise any of you is that she also requested more tomatoes at dinner! I made a very long video, which has now left me here late at the chimp house. I will leave you with the extra long video and a few photos captured from today.
And our heartfelt thanks goes out to Paulette Wrisley, the second wonderful human to sponsor today in celebration of Missy and the amazing chimpanzee woman she is. We are so grateful to Paulette and Marcie for helping to make today special and for helping to ensure Missy could eat tomatoes to her heart’s content.
Missy on the Hill his morning:
Our vet Erin captured these beautiful photos of Annie and Missy!

Eventually Missy had enough of the camera and turned her back on all of us (very Missy):

“Hi, Jamie, How are you doing, Jamie? Nice to see you Jamie. Bye, Jamie.” She scraped by with those tomatoes!
I was amazed Neggie left them until I saw that there was corn! We know how that ranks with the Queen!
Missy jump jump jumping for the fellas truly looked like an athlete at the Olympics getting ready for her run!
Dr Erin! wowza! Look at the color on those photos! That’s one of the best Annie pics ever! Amazing color! And she’s happy to see you! (unlike Missy, who loves you, but was over the photo shoot already).
Thanks to the person who got the tomatoes into the arms of our favorite sanctuary sparkplug!

I agree with you Linda. Dr. Erin’s photos are sensational! Annie’s is gorgeous.

Missy carrying all those tomotoes and not missing a beat to reach down to retrieve a dropped treasure was priceless. Another fun party, thanks for making it a special day for all.

Neggie might be the oldest and slowest, but she made sure she was out of the gate fast enough to snag her favourite corn! Missy’s party must be the easiest to organise…..no need to think much about it, and right at prime tomato season too. Loved her thinking how she was going to get down from the termite mound….oops! no hands to help, so I’ll just have to jump! Negotiate getting around Jamie, then I’m home and dry with my treasure trove. Was that our bouncing boy, Burrito jumping up and down at the caging….he was going so fast I couldn’t see his face! They have certainly all learnt about parties and fun. Bless them all! (And all you caregivers too of course for putting the work in to make sure they have a great time!! )
Linda C says
That was Missy!
And Annie sitting next to her, saying “Bestie, none of those guys are good enough for you.”
CarolR says
Thanks Linda. It just seemed out-of-the-ordinary exuberance for Missy!
Linda C says
It sure did! Maybe she’s tired of Foxie getting all of the attention!
Susan Kathleen Feeley says
Happy birthday, Missy! I can see the fun you are having with your friends on your very special day and all that vitamin C from those tomatoes will stand you in good stead.

Happy birthday, Missy! Sweet, wonderful, tomato-loving, best-friend-to-Annie, Missy. She proves that 48 is really the new 28!

First of all, a wonderful, fantastic happy birthday Missy. You should have had a wee basket to carry all you tomatoes in, and that way you could have had more to enjoy, but you did seems to have one or two, nope sorry, 7, yep 7 wow. You look amazing and you certainly proved agr is only a number by all the very high jumping to see your neighbours and then that huge, massive jump down to get another prize tomatoe. And just as well, you didn’t fancy any corn because it seemed as your beautiful friend Negra got to them first. I hope youve had the best birthday ever sweet lady. Love to chimps, cattle and definetly not least the fantastic humans from Scotland.

Happy birthday lovely lady!!!

“Happiness, always and forever.”…that’s my birthday wish to you, dear Missy. And beefsteak & heirloom tomatoes bring happiness galore!
I need better neighbors. Think of the workout I could get everyday day if had Gordo, Terry, and Willy B living next door! So glad you captured Missy jumping (showing off or telling the boys off?!). She’s amazing. I laughed when Jamie flipped over the tub knowing she would find goodies hidden out of sight. And I’d like to believe Negra, beloved Negra, was leaving the tomatoes for the birthday girl to enjoy, but I know Negra has a special place in her tummy just for sweet summer corn on the cob.
Missy did not disappoint. How did she maneuver the terrain carrying all those tomatoes?! I was laughing through it all, cheering her on.
Thank you to everyone who made Missy’s 48th birthday oh so very special. Thanks Kelsi, for all your time producing this hysterical video. And was it you climbing up high scattering the forage? I loved seeing what it looks like to be up on the platform. No wonder it’s one of the chimps favorite hangouts.
