This spring we get to do something special, we get to hire 2 new employees to join our team! It’s extremely rare we get to actually create new positions, but as you might know, we are expanding our world to make more room for Honey B, Willy B and Mave and provide a new home for Cy, Lucky, Rayne, Terry, Dora, and Gordo! An additional group of chimpanzees living at the sanctuary means we need more staff to help provide the excellent level of care we strive to achieve. An added bonus for blog readers is that you’ll get to read stories from new blog authors and hear about the sanctuary from their unique perspectives.
Our first position we get to advertise for is for a Full-Time Chimpanzee Caregiver.
Feel free to help spread the word about this opportunity and stay tuned for our second job posting. We will also be advertising in the near future for a Full-Time Vet Tech/Caregiver position (job description coming soon). Looking forward to all the new exciting changes this year has in store for us!
Oh what I wouldn’t give to live closer?
That’s exactly what went through my mind, Nancy! That, and “can I get a degree in primatology in one year!?”
Oh geez I want to sell my house and quit my job! I’d work for free! Wow a dream come true for some lucky lucky, lucky person!
Let Jamie do the interview! Let Burrito check calisthenics! Let Mave check for patience!
Neggie has to approve dancing style!
OMG! If only I was in a position where I could relocate. I Never like to single anyone out or have favorites but Cy boy has my heart man. I love him dearly…Terry is another guy that always came over for playful chase but Cy always called me over when I was on my treatment rounds without fail… I miss them very much and I know their current caregivers will be devastated when they leave. I hope they take comfort in that these chimps will have such a awesome place and new set of caregivers who will love them just as much. I’m excited to see how they respond to their new home. I know they will thrive just has Sweet Mave, Handsome Willy B and the ever so clever Honey B have! Much love to you all!
a tutorial from Deanna on each in the new group would be a welcome addition for the future arrival……
First thank you so much Anna for writing up the blog today and sharing the pictures. I hope that you find the best person to fill the position to help with the sanctuary in the future and to help with the new chimpanzees to becoming soon.
Out of the pictures my favorite one always is the ones where the caretakers are interacting with the chimpanzees and in this case like most is when the caretakers are racing along the outer perimeter fence against one or multiple chimpanzees in there habitat.
God bless you all and thank you so much again for all that you do.
Ken
I know you know how much I wish I could apply. And I’d move in heartbeat as I (we) simply love WA and the Cle Elum area. SO, if I could trade my 22 years volunteering in shelters (includes Positive Reinforcement experience) for the requirement of 1-2 years volunteer or intern experience caring for chimpanzees in a sanctuary, zoo setting and we sort of ignore the section titled “Preferred Qualifications” (with the exception of the part where it states “willingness to learn”), then all I need to do is work on easily hoisting 50 pounds…..sigh…..I think I could apply.
I noticed there is no mention of passing the Boss Jamie Approval Test?! But seriously, I can’t wait to be introduced to your new Caregivers this year. So much to look forward to. Good luck with the hiring process. I know you’ll hire the very best, perhaps a past volunteer or graduate?
What an incredible opportunity for two very fortunate (as yet unknown), wonderful people. We are all so excited that the new 6 will have this world of experiences and opportunities open up to them. Thanks for the wonderful post Anna! Cheers to the newbies – human and primate 🙂

I think I’d be the perfect person for the job, other than the fact that I have no experience and am totally unqualified in every way. I can operate an oven and roast a sweet potato, so when that position comes open give me a call. It’s fantastic that you are hiring, it means the day you welcome the New Californians is coming closer. 2020 took about 10 years to get through, but now that 2021 is here it seems like the pace is picking up.
Love your approach Betsy! Professional Sweet Potato Roaster. Yes, apply today. I’ll apply as the person who cuts the top off the pineapple! Pineapple CrownCrafter.
Lol, I have to confess I’d play favorites and leave a little extra on that top for Queen Neggie! 😉
Yes! It is always more fun to work together in the kitchen, it would be a joy to work with you feeding our chimp friends.
what I wouldn’t give….
but what an exciting opportunity! You guys are the best, and I know you will hire
someone who IS the best. Exciting times!
